Default Locked up engine

Going down the freeway my oil line broke in my 2006 Z51 M6. Needless to say before I could get out of traffic and off the road my engine locked up.

Since I'm now looking at a crate engine how much more would it cost to go to the LS 376 495 or what else would you suggest that won't break the bank?

Junkyard engine, then trade the car in immediately.

Always love this kind of answer, since its the reason that you need to go through a used vet with a fine tooth comb to find out what the seller is really hiding/why they are selling the car in the first place.

Hence motor went south, and if the cooler and cooler lines are not replace with replacement motor, then what came out of the old engine, will be right back in the new engine. Also, most junk yard motors have been sitting for a while, metal parts in them starting to rust up, so such would not be the best to use as is to start with.

The other option of course is to get the engine rebuilt, that is if the block is not damaged beyond repair.
Any reputable engine rebuilder should be able to fix it, for a lot less than crate engine.
Good Luck

This vette has at least 150,000 miles on it and is 15 years old.

Hence ANY used car needs a thorough inspection, especially high mileage ones. No way I'd put $10,000 into a $15,000 (if he's lucky) car.

Pretend this didn't happen and he sold it tomorrow. What's more of a crapshoot for the potential buyer, an original 150k mile engine that you know nothing about, or a salvage engine with a possible 40k-200k on it? Seems like even odds to me.

Just curious; not leaning one way or the other in this debate. Would you say the same about a car like mine that's been heavily modified with an abundance of non-engine-related mods?

I'm not really into appearance mods past wheels and an OE-style spoiler. I also don't know how many miles are on your car or its value. But hypothetically if I had a narrow body C6 worth $25k stock and I had $10k to burn on looks, I'd get rid of it and buy a nice, low miles GS with the $35k instead. Or leave it alone.
