Default Hvac problems

Ok so this started about a year ago. The hvac has a mind of its own. When I start
the car sometimes the hvac goes on by itself. And when it’s on it’s On full bore the highest fan speed.
None of the controls work. Could be cold or hot. Depends on what the temperature was
set on when the car was turned off. And when it comes on I can’t adjust fan speed or temperature
or venting. This happens 90% of the time I drive the car. Took it to the dealer and of course
it would not duplicate the problem. They said that they did a global reset whatever the hell
that means. Car was good for a couple weeks and now I’m back to square one. It’s a crap
shoot every time I get in the car. I never know what it’s gonna do. And sometimes when it’s
not on and I try to turn it on it’s a 50/50 shot. Doesn’t matter what I turn or push,it does
whatever it wants. It’s an 06 base convertible with 21,000mi. Any help of where to start is greatly appreciated. Thanks

You probably need to replace the hvac control module. They are known to go bad. Problem is you can't find them new any more. Best bet is to pick up a used one or refurbished one. Lots of them on ebay.

You may also be able to repair the one you have. Usually it's a solder joint that needs to be re-soldered that is causing the issues.

This happens to me sometimes. If I turn on the defroster the HVAC switches to "Automatic" mode. Then the next time I start the car automatic mode makes the fan blow full blast.
As long as I remember to switch from defrost to any other setting before I shut the car down this doesn't happen.

As mentioned, likely a cold solder joint on the control board.
Good Luck

The problem is when this happens none of the controls work for me. None of the buttons
or the temp *****. It is really very frustrating. It can blow hot air in the middle of the summer or cold
in the winter. It does whatever it wants.
