Lost my key fob.it's a 2011 GS My fobs are not marked #1 or # 2.When i'm in the car,the DIC says # ! and the other fob will say # 2.I lost the fob that read # 1.Looking on internet i am seeing Driver # 1 and driver # 2 ,Does it really make a difference, you still have to reprogram and get the key cut.Chevy wanted 366.50 and that ain't happening. Anone know who to purchase one from.My fcc# on the fob is M3N5WY7777A. As long as the replacement fob # matched the # 2 fob that i have i think it should work?????
FOB's are all the same. If listed as 1 or 2 it will have a small number stamped on the bottom of the FOB.
Just for fun look again at the bottom of your FOB 2 and see if there is a small number stamped. The number on mine is small, poorly stamped, and veey easy to miss.
The short form just programs the new fob as the next fob number. If the next fob number is a 3 or a 4, that fob will not have access to the options the car has. If you use the long procedure, it will cancel all fobs not programmed with this procedure and you can program your fobs as #1 and #2, with both having access to the options the car has.
Pick up a fob on eBay. Should be about $70-80. If you lost the other fob, you’ll want to do the long procedure to clear all fobs & then reprogram the new & current fob. As mentioned the numbers stamped on the fob don’t mean anything.
OK,i lost fob #1.I have a fob#2.I ordered Driver # 1,25926480,Fcc# M3N5WY7777A(# off remote# 2) from Keyllessentryremoteinc. Will this show up as #3 and not give me all opitons if i do the short procedure.Thanks-----Paid 75 bucks for fob and key blank shipped to my house.I'll let you know if it is a piece of crap when it gets here.It is new but a knockoff with oem specs.Probably comes with a bowl of rice

The fact is that even if the fob ends up programmed as #3 or even #4, you can still access driver 1 and 2 options by way of the switch on driver's door. You can select, program, save, and recall those options regardless of which fob you use to enter the car. Before you change to a different driver option, car must be in P for an A6, and the parking brake on for an M6.

Looked under a microscope and only numbers are FCC and Part #

Well, there's a joke here about what's printed on the bottom Coke bottles - "Open other end", so I guess it applies here. You need to look at the other end of the fob. The FCC stuff is on the top of the fob case. The fob number is printed (labelled) on the bottom of the fob case. I can feel the label if I run my fingernail over it lightly. Yours should be there. I suppose with enough wear and tear, the label could be scratched off. Here are the bottoms of my '11 fobs.
The #2 fob was delivered with the car. The #1 fob was purchased from a vendor on eBay, and I added it in to the 2 existing fobs using the short procedure so that it is now recognized as fob #3, but as I've pointed out, it can act exactly the same as fob #1 or #2 with the press of a button.
Before i start the short procedure with the new fob,is there a procedure for seeing if the glove box slot worksAnyway to test this ,or is it not needed.Don't want to erase fobs.

OK-did the short fob program.worked well but have no trunk function.Any ideas.Would it hurt to do it again or would it be the fob.The orginal fob opens the trunk.

Since you already used the short program to marry your new fob to the car, you can't do it again with that fob. You will get a message that the fob is already known. At this point you would need to do the long procedure. If only the trunk function is missing, my bets are on a problem with the fob.

would you send it back or try again. It is a back up.

If by try again you mean reprogram it, you'd have to perform the long procedure which erases all known fobs, and then you start adding them back in again. Given that you were successful with the short procedure, this is probably going to work, but there is always a risk that something goes wrong, and you end up with no working fobs. I've never heard of the case where a fob that's just been programmed is missing the functionality of one of the buttons. To me they either all should work if the fob is programmed, or none of them should work if it isn't. So my money's on that there's something wrong with the fob, and I'd send it back. However, if you get another one, and use the short procedure and there's still an empty programming slot, then it will end up as fob #4, which wouldn't be any different than having a #3. If there are already 4 known fobs programmed, then you won't be able to add the new one back in using the short procedure, and you'll have to use the long procedure. Or get access to a Tech II.
Can you find someone with a TechI II tool? Apparently very easy to add in fobs using that without the muss and fuss of twisting keys in the trunk lock.
