Guyys: Just got off the phone with Discount tire and I'm more confused than ever!! I was all set to order a set of Michelin Pilot Sport when the manager said it's no longer available for the front (size). We then switched to talking about the Continental Extreme Contact DWS06plus or the Goodyear Exilirate. None are run flats. Price is very close. Would love some input as to what to do here!! Thanks in advance for your opinions. Bob.
I. I would do your research on Tire Rack and compare various tires’ performance, wet/dry, traction, treadwear, life expectancy, etc. My experience is the tire shop guys are not really that knowledgeable about tires, especially for performance cars.
2. I have Continental extreme contact sport on my Z06 & also had them on my previous GS. Very happy with them, great handling, pretty quiet, and have good treadwear. They are non-run flat, but I carry a tire repair kit and mini inflator in the rear of the car.
Also check prices on Discount Tire Direct vs Discount Tire. I saved $100 on my set by purchasing through Discount Tire Direct & having them installed at Discount Tire vs just buying them at my local Discount Tire store.
I have the Continental Extreme Contact DWS on my car. The DWS plus came out a week after I bought my last set. They're great tires and are quieter and ride much better than the run flats, plus to me, they look look better on the car than the Michelins or Goodyears.
A few months ago I bought a set of Michelin run flats for my 2007 at discount tire. They're okay, I don't notice a huge improvement over the stock Goodyears that come on the vehicle.
I wouldn't put a set of Goodyears on my car if you gave them to me...
But that's just me.
I've had Goodyears on multiple vehicles and they've all been pure trash. They're all too loud and they wear too easily. They came on my DD 2020 Silverado and I can't wait to wear them out and replace them. I'm closing in on 10k miles so I'm probably halfway there
I've also got the Continentals on my car and they're excellent. Great traction, great handling, quiet, and the tread wear has been pretty good too. I will buy them again when these wear out.
i have had both..depends what model vette your talking about
i have run kumos, conti extreme contacts, mich run flats
i am currently using the GY's and am surprised how well they are holding up..great dry traction and pretty quiet..but i am driving a c6 z51 m6 , having had a
c6 Z and several c5 z"s most rear tires after 10k miles and lots of heat cycles are not much good on the street for traction or noise.....

Don't know what you re talking about. Discount Tire has plenty of Michelin PS4S available. What car do you have?
It's really easy to get tied up on a certain brand.
Yes, Michelins are generally better than many other brands.
I believe that there are 4/5/6 brands that all make top tier tires.
Saying that the low tier Goodyears that came on my new truck were junk is just irrelevant.
I think Goodyear makes some good tires, it's just that they are over priced.
Anyway, the last time I bought tires for my '08, BF Goodrich had a great sale.
Checking on tire rack, they were rated right up there with the Michlins, Perellis, etc.
Also, I noticed that when I bought the tires in 2018? they were optional upgrade on the supercharged Camero's, and were very well talked about on the Camero forums.
They have worked well for me, are a name brand with nationwide service available, were American made, etc.

I second that notion. Goodyear’s suck. They probably have a couple OK tires for small cars, but for performance cars heck no. When I replace mine I will likely go with either the hankook ventus or the continentals. Michelin are great tires, but I can’t justify spending that much money on a street tire. I had kumho ecsta ASX on my c5 and they were incredible. Much more quiet than f1’s, way better dry traction, and better in the rain. I even drove them in 1-2 inches of snow once and had no issues driving about 10 miles. I got 40k out of them, tons of burnouts, tons of roll races, and some track sessions and they still didn’t need to be replaced when I sold the car. Unfortunately they don’t make them in grand sport sizes.
