Obviously there's no convincing him, we who have the cameras consider it to be a must do because of the benefits of them, if Topduarte ever drove a vehicle with a back up camera, he'd see what we mean.
I have driven a car with a back up camera. My sons 2019 challenger scat Pack.
Side note: Worse car I've ever owned w/o a backup camera was my 2010 Camaro. Back on topic: Hard wiring a camera is a piece of cake. I ran mine up the passenger side and probably took an hour to run the wires (if that) and another 30 minutes to wire the camera into the reverse lights - chose your wiring different if you want to be able to turn on your camera while driving. (I have a Pioneer HU with the GM11 interface).
I tried a wireless camera in my Mustang GT and it was junk. Turned out to be easier just to hardwire. That was 2015 so maybe they're better now along with BT.
I considered a backup camera but soon realized that my 427 is a weekend use only ride with the top down 95% of the time when in use, best "backing up" view for me, I simply turn and look back..
I upgraded my system also with a backup camera...makes it easy to see what's behind you. ordered a cheap backup camera
s from amazon that attaches to license plate easy to run the wires to the front by going under the console.
We have huge blind spots around the tailend of our Corvettes. A camera is cheap insurance against backup problems, especially in tight quarters.
Love my camera! Helps to know where my keester is when backing.
I stuck my nose up at back up cameras for years and have never owned a vehicle with one until we purchase a new car for my wife in October. They take a little bit to get used to but I really do appreciate it now. Very useful tool.... I believe folks used to say the same (not needed) cordless drill or a smart phones. Yes, you can be by without them.
With more clearance, I wouldn’t care a bit if my car didn’t have a camera. Obviously I scan my mirrors when backing into a parking space. However, I have nearly dinged my Corsa exhaust on a sidewalk or a curb when backing into the parking space. It’s insanity to pull into a space with a Corvette IMHO. I plan to get a front camera, but my install guys suggested to wait until I get my splitter installed so it can be adjusted correctly.
Sure you can drive/park a Corvette without a front/rear camera......but why would you? They are cheap and they are relatively easy to install. I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t want on on your baby.
Also 49 here! I'm installing a whole system in my C6Z06 and going to install a c7 rear backup camera and a cheapo front camera too. Cams are a must for me.
Fronts Focal K2's
Rear Hertz 130.3
Amps Audio Control ACM-300.4 & ACM-300.1

49 years old here as well. I never used a back-up camera until my 2019 Subaru Crosstrek (that I traded for the 2019 Corvette). Obviously, I could do without one, but like I said earlier......why would one want to???

Curious where you’re planning to have it installed on the vehicle & why your splitter would matter?
Here’s mine in the grill & no issues with the splitter

Early 40’s & it has nothing to do with age. It has to do with expensive parts on the car that I don’t want to damage and/or have to replace. No matter how great of a driver we think we are, we cannot see directly behind your rear bumper by using the side mirrors.
It also has nothing to do with the inability to park cars either. While in college I worked as a valet at a very high-end hotel. My boss was ocd with cars being lined up when parked parallel. And if you pulled one car out you had to immediately put one car back & the side mirrors had to line up with the cars in front/behind. I can pretty much parallel park anything - but it’s now much easier & much less effort parking with cameras.
I back all our vehicles into their respective garages. The back wall of my garages has plenty of items along it, and those items move pretty regularly. It’s nice to be able to back the Grand Cherokee or Wrangler in and know how close I am to those items that are outside the field of view of the mirrors.
I added a rear camera to my 2005 coupe when I replaced my old stock radio with a Sony AXV series since the CD player is did not work and added a rear camera just like RARE ZR1 pictured above. Works great and is a hard wire install directly to the Sony camera port.

For me it was more driven by having had it and realizing what I was missing. I used to stick my nose up at all the "driver aids": backup cameras, blind spot monitoring, park sensors, forward collision alert/adaptive cruise, etc. Then once you get a vehicle with them, you really start to appreciate how useful they are. Some are useful, but not absolutely required (I'd rate blind spot, FCA/adaptive cruise & park sensors at that level), some once you have you really see why they are mandatory on new cars (backup camera, TPMS). Can I back a Corvette in without a backup camera, sure. But having one makes it a whole lot easier and let's me position the vehicle better and make sure there are no obstacles the mirrors can't see. Again, for me it wasn't about audio quality on the new head unit (although it is better as I'm hearing parts of the music I did not hear before with the C6 factory unit), but more about the convenience of mirroring the phone screen for things like controlling Pandora, seeing Waze and especially for the backup camera.
As to age, I'm 51. It's funny that my Dad being in his mid 70s wanted to do one on his C6 without me even prompting him. He did his last year (before I had this C6) and didn't feel like doing the head unit, so just added a wireless one. It's a solar powered license plate frame & camera with a dedicated screen. He took out the mirror portion of his driver side visor and mounted the screen there and loves it.

I would think similar placement.......when I had my stereo install done recently, the head guy intimated that I should wait to do the front camera until after the front splitter was installed. I got the impression that he wanted it done in this order to be able to direct the camera for best view in protecting the splitter. I don’t know......it made sense until I just said it out loud.
It may work out better for me to do that anyways. I need to take the car back to them to have them adjust a few things.......
I picked up a solar powered backup camera from Amazon for $183.
Simple plug n play w/ no wiring! Solar Powered Backup Camera
N8 Wavy - Did you have any fit problems? I've been looking at this for my 2012 GS but it looks like it may extend too far above and below the license plate to fit in the space.
I dont get it. Do you use your mirrors?
That is what they are there for.
Look at your surroundings when about to park and dont get to close.
Just my $0.02
My rear windows on my 2006 are heavily tinted. Looks fantastic and I can see headlights behind be fine but it is very hard to see the car behind me when backing into a parking spot in a dark parking lot . . . even when using my mirrors.
