Assuming you have the Nav headunit, which didn't come with USB or aux input in 05. Best way is a new headunit. If you have XM module (even if it's not activated, just as long as the XM option shows up), then you can splice in and use that as an aux input. Other alternative is to buy a used late model C6 headunit with USB input (I've got one for sale if you want it) as it will actually control iPod directly, but I believe you have to get the car reflashed to run it by the dealer.
I replaced my head unit with all the bells and whistles, and using Blue tooth for phone and iPod.
I paid a few extra bucks and got a unit that has wireless Car Play, which is great, I don't even have to take the phone out of my pocket and don't have to mess with cables.

also. The stock head unit is way outdated, and is so limited sound wise, you can get a good aftermarket system that sounds so much better and has tons more functionality than the stock system.
Yet anyone have experience with these types?
In other words, this type plugs into a cigar lighter.
Is the FM transmitter "popping" the under the AC display unit cigar lighter fuse?
Or "popping" the lighter socket located under the arm rest of the center console?
And maybe more importantly, is sound quality degraded with these types of transmitter?
Any specific C6 experience with OEM Nav units?
Broadcasting Celine Dion for the interstate ... no comment.
FWIW, OP I believe if you search this forum for "Kawal" you will find a great reference and options addressing your question.
So my 06 had the navigation head unit. I ended up with the Isimple ISGM655 module. Cost about 130 dollars and you have to remove the console cover and head unit to install. This item plugs into the wiring going to the radio and gives your bluetooth as well as wired connection for your phone ect.

I used one for a few weeks and it was ok. Didn’t pop any fuses, but was a bit cumbersome accessing the controls located on the side of the device. Was also hard in my area to find an FM frequency that was unused. And the only steering wheel control I had was the volume control. I couldn’t skip forward to the next song. The sound quality was acceptable, but not great. Much happier with the new Kenwood DMX907S I had installed.

If you can afford a Vette, you can afford to upgrade it right. A crappy FM transmitter is hardly that. Replace that overly dated factory Nav with a proper wireless Android Auto / CarPlay unit.
Unless I'm missing something here you can't do anything with the stock radio to play anything other than the radio itself. It's not blue tooth compatible and has no input jacks for an external source. Even if it did the sound would be crap. Replace the head unit and you'll have all the bells and whistles and be a happy camper.

The big issues with FM transmitters is that you will have to change frequency as you travel, and if you live in a big metro there may not be any good frequencies that don't get interference. If you like decent quality audio, it's really not the way to go.
I have posted this before with the same question about a 2005 playing an Ipod.
I have a GM PAL that I removed from my 05 that connects with a wiring harness between the NAV radio module and the head unit that you can connect an ipod into. It worked great, left the ipod in the drivers side cubby since the PAL mounted over the rear tire where the NAV module resides. The white cable has what looks like a RJ45 connector with an Ipod connection on the other end.
You can control everything from you old stock HU.
It's just collecting dust - just pay shipping and it's yours if you want it PM me.
The BT45 plugs into the same area between the Head unit and XM radio module over driver rear tire, I ran the cable and mounter it in my center console by removing the aux plug inside the console.
It also comes with a microphone so you can answer your phone over the speakers. The Bluetooth works OK, you use XM1 for playing music from your phone along with talking. I have been told that the phone is noisy but I haven't tried to correct the microphone settings yet, I have the microphone clipped up high on the drivers side A pillar. It also gives you aux input capabilities via the Batige cable that you could plug your nano into.
It's actually an ok setup - nothing like a new head unit setup but a lot cheaper way to upgrade to at least having Bluetooth & Aux for tunes with your OEM HU.
I like the one comment that says if you can afford a vette than get a better unit. I will look into that option. Appreciate all the responses. You guys rock!

My FM transmitter work just fine with my ipod. The reason I was able to afford my Corvette is because I saved up for it. If you watch your pennies, the dollars will take care of themselves.
The FM transmitter will work great for some and not so good for others depending on many outside issues... But for less than $15 you are really not out anything to give it a try. It works great for me in the mountain states when I road trip and it's not uncommon to have 100 miles between towns and no other radio reception.
I took him up on his offer to send his un-used PAL to me (post 14).
Arrived as promised and well packaged for shipping.
Thanks BMF
Outstanding !!
I hope it works out for you, would rather someone have it that could use it instead of it either sitting on the shelf in my garage or throwing it in the trash when cleaning said garage up.
Thanks for the nice words!!!
