I want to know how others feel about the C6. I own one and I can honestly say that while it’s a beautiful car on the outside with a beast of an engine, the car was made like total crap!!! It truly has changed my mind on how poorly American made cars are.
1) my roof blew off on the highway going 80mph. Yes, you read that correctly, my roof!! Everything was latched on tightly, that wasn’t the issue. The roof where it has adhesive came apart leave just the outside in tact. They did a recall on this and Chevrolet told me to kick rocks and wouldn’t take care of the issue. They told me it’s not under my ViN but others yes. Yet the same exact problem happened to me.
2) the constant roof creaking every second while driving
3) weather stripping in rear and all over the car halfway off
4) my shifter **** I have tape on it looking like a cheap Honda because my **** broke off out of no where
5) constant noises by the steering wheel
6) all the sudden I wasn’t able to put the car in gear anymore. Turns out it was a wire underneath the car that broke that controls the gears.
many more and too much to list.
End of rant
EDIT: LAST BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST IS THE TORQUE TUBE CONNECTOR! ITS EXTREMELY EMBARRASSING AND SOUNDS LIKE A BROKEN DOWN HONDA. CHEVROLET TOLD ME ITS OVER $3000 TO FIX AND TAKES OVER A WEEK!!
Being a relative newbie to both the C6 and this forum I'm probably not the guy who can best comment on this - but I've had none of your experiences. Mine is an 07 with 79,1xx on the odo when I bought it in January, 82, 3xx now and completely, totally, absolutely problem free. If you don't like your own fix of the shifter **** & think it looks Honda cheap, why not just buy another one? I can't imagine how a properly affixed and clamped roof panel would just 'blow off' at any speed, but again, I'm not the most knowledgeable about these things. Of course there is some creaking from the removable roof panel, that's to be expected as the car's chassis bends & flexes while absorbing the stresses of everyday driving life. Personally, I'd much rather live with some creaking but be able to pop the top off and drive open-air than have a fixed roof but one that's perfectly quiet.
Regardless, it sounds like you are thoroughly dissatisfied with your car and not having a pleasant ownership experience, thus I'd say you should probably just sell it and move on. Good news is we're in a strong seller's market right now. Our cars are commanding a premium on the open market these days and I doubt you'd have any difficulty at all finding someone to take it, & its problems, off your hands.

I appreciate the response. Here you go in regards to the roof blowing off. Articles all over the internet about it.
Your sixth point is a relatively common issue with the automatic gearbox in the C6. The others seem like issues any vehicle could face with general wear and tear.
Hmmm...I honestly did not know about this. Can any of you C6 old timers/experts let me know if there's a simple visual inspection I can do to tell if my car was corrected under recall?

I can understand the frustration as this is most people's dream car and we want them to be perfect. What is the Year of your car and mileage? Are you the original owner?
Also, one has to think that even the "newest" C6 from 2013 is now an 8-year-old car. Things break. Even brand new cars have problems and recalls. So I would say fix the things you can and enjoy your car. Or as the 2nd post said, Sell it.
Other than the roof, seems like very minor problems for a car over 10 years old.
#2 and #6 are simple, cheap fixes that have been explained on this forum dozens of times.
#3 is another simple fix.
You can also buy a shifter **** and replace it in a few minutes to resolve #4.
All car have problems. Neglected cars have more.

I've had mine for 4 years.I drive it every day. Bought it with 100K on it and now it has 160K. I've never experienced any of those problems.
Say whaaat?? You mean you actually, ....gulp...., drive your Corvette??
No offense intended to anyone, but man do you ever seem like a rarity. Amazing to me how many people have 6, 8, 10+ year old cars with fewer miles on the odometer than their street address number.
I have had mine for going on 3 years now and it is my daily driver in rain or sun and even been caught in a snow/ice storm a couple times while at work. I have nothing but great things to say about my car. My top creaked a bit but that was fixable with a couple of adjustments and some O-Rings.
Any older car needs to be taken good care of.
Shifter ***** can be replaced, weatherstripping should be maintained, especially in cars over 10 years old and the rest I have never heard of people having issues with yet alone about tops flying off "all over the internet"
Lots of threads on how to fix the creaky Targa top. Mine created, I fixed it, and not a sound from it in 3 years, lots of miles, and counting.
Would you mind posting a link to one of these threads, Fats? Not knowing the right word combo to search on, I came up with this... https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-bulletin.html
...which is addressing later years than my 07.
thx

I would try your hand at BMW ownership or Mercedes ownership next. You are going to be $30k down the hole in repairs in the first 5 years.
1. This was a known issue on some C6's WAY back when. I have had 4 C6's and never experienced this. Probably in 250k miles of driving. Perhaps the roof was dropped by a previous owner and caused a separation, who knows.
2. This is a 5 minute fix with dielectric grease around the rubber seals. GM sells it in a tube for $14 or so but you can grab it for $5 at an auto parts store. I have done that to every C6 I have ever owned, it's more of a maintenance issue at this point.
3. I had parked one C6 in direct FL sun for over 2 years, weatherstripping did not have an issue. Are you sure this car did not have a questionable past? Sometimes people pull on the weather stripping while cleaning them with rags.
4. Be gentle, it's a shift **** not your weiner.
5. Not sure what this means.
6. This is a common issue on MANY vehicles, not just Corvettes.
Not sure what to say. I have owned my 2007 for 13 years and 90,000 miles and have experienced only one of those issues (shift cable). Otherwise, the car has been completely reliable, rattle and creak free (as long as I keep the roof weatherstripping lubricated), and a lot of fun. I would suggest you sell yours and buy a Honda.

Yep. I bought it to enjoy driving it and that's what I do rain or shine. I do not baby it and I don't let it sit in the garage.
Get this: I even let it get dirty!
I DO make a special effort to wash it before going to any local Corvette club functions. Don't want to give any of those other Vette owners a coronary...
