Default Odd headlight shipping question ?

I decided to get the headlights in my 2007 Base convertible, and while I'm getting ready to try and ship the headlight to Umnitza in California I wondered about the shipping problem, and I was wondering if anybody who's done this operation, what size box do I need to ship each one in it's own box, and what kind of padding do I need to make sure it isn't the last trip the headlights make ?

Thank you,

Why don't you bring into UPS store, FEDX store, and let them pack it up, so if they do poor job, you have someone to claim!

Shipping is going to run you about $115 or so to & fro, unless Umnitza is covering part of the shipping. The headlights are big and will be 1 per box. You should wrap them in bubble wrap at a minimum.

Buy some bubble wrap. Wrap them up and stick them in a box big enough for both headlights including the bubble wrap. Fill any remaining space in the box with the remaining bubble wrap and tape up the box. Then drop kick it a few times and open the box and check for damage. If all is good, repack and ship.

Disclaimer: most people skip the drop kick test and just ship it after taping and sealing box.

Man from Umnitza told me that shipping through a 'Franchise' store only jacks up the price to ship as they don't own the store and their have to charge a lot more as it's just profit to the store owners. He said to take it to a 'Hub' or company location and ship from there. I live close to Philly International airport and Fedex has a hub location there ?

Don't forget to insure them as the included amount is only $100.

I used my wife’s company discount, which is really good, and it was still over $100 to ship the lights from TX to CA. FedEx said everything going to CA is more than double anywhere else I shipped another set of lights from TX to AL for $30. So I’m guessing from Philly to CA may be more than from TX to CA.

Yeah, I'm betting this is going to cost bigtime. $150.+, I'm sending another extra light I bought cheap as mu one drivers side light is damaged, and Umnitza are going to fix the broken High beam projector lens. He said to ship all three in separate boxes, bubble wrap all but if i put them in boxes too big, that will trigger a higher shipping price due to the dimension's of each box ? Nothing ever goes easy !

Look at Choppy something headlights, I see his work in several C6 Facebook groups and he’s in College Station, TX. Might be more cost-effective.

The boxes my lights are in are 26”L x 15.5”D x 10.5”H.

One light per box.

Choppy's Headlights

Many different options.

Heck, I could just drive up there.

the bottom box is from Lowe’s. It has a set of Choppy lights in it waiting to be installed.

Well it took a day to find and load the headlights and an extra one for parts, but it cost $339.68 to ship them to Umnitza in Concord, California ! . . . cost more to ship them that the whole lens and upgrade job total ?

There are multitudes of ways to save on shipping.
For safety, Fedex/UPS are the best - especially if you go to the hubs for service, but I suspect given this thread that they have changed their $$$ policy to be closer to the retail stores based on this shipping cost. It's also possible that shipping from certain areas is more (rural vs urban).

USPS is not super reliable, but if you use their online shipping tool to generate a label and do it by weight only vs dimensions, you may be able to save 30-50% off what the prices are from Fedex/UPS. Of course when you deliver to the USPS they may still up charge you the dimension charge, sometimes they don't, most times they do. But it still winds up being a bit cheaper.

As a general help - try to use brokers online to help you if you can - places like uship.com are things we recommend to customers shipping oversized items.

Well it's quite expensive, but then you have to consider the safety factor, With Fedex I'm sort of confident they are going to arrive in Concord, CA in one piece, which you can't put a price on, if their broken, then I'm looking at 2-3 grand to replace the two headlight assemblies, and that'll put me out of action till I can find replacements and get them fixed with new lens and the assorted work I'm having done by Umnitza. So I think it's a pitter pill, but the alternative isn't all that great !

Killain, I sure hate that for you sort of ticks me off thinking about those charges. I've told a co-worker friend of mine many times everytime you spend a dollar in this country some one is gonna get screwed. Hope everything works out for you.
