With consideration to many of the posts here by people I respect....you can run mid-grade, and even regular, without damage to your car. You will lose some HP, but I know you are not racing. You are also not towing, nor in stop and go traffic in 110 degrees. We all love to run the premium, but a good-quality mid-grade will not hurt the car at all. I would not run it if I will be stressing the engine in any way, but it will do no harm under normal conditions.
As for not being concerned about the price of gas/fuel, we should all be bat-**** crazy pissed about what has happened. It is not necessary, and these prices affect EVERY ASPECT OF OUR LIVES. Running premium even at $7 per gallon will not affect us much, but everything else we touch or eat will be affected by the cost of fuel.
Just run a flex fuel setup and you can pump E85 if you have it nearby, you may lose about 30% mpg compared to your normal, but at least you can feel better about the $2~ price range.
I thought this forum was supposed to be free of politics. You missed my point. I wasn't complaining. Not that it matters but I personally didn't vote for any of the elected idiots as you keep saying you.
Its the in thing to do right now to blame Joe Biden for everything
Its the in thing to do right now to blame Joe Biden for everything
You act like that hasn't been the case for every past president.
I honestly think anyone who would want to be president is deranged. It's a no win game, you're always at fault and there's no upside. Even if you do an awesome job, half the country will hate you because they're brainwashed into hating the other half. Really, crap job to have, you've gotta be a total egomaniac to want to do it.
One thing that does save me dollars on gas is that I buy $50 gas cards for $40 at my local grocer (Publix) when they have that offer every few weeks. I chose to get the Shell cards and have about 60 of them. Plus I use Fuel Rewards and get 5 cents discount per gallon. My last fill up was at a Shell on Alico Road in South Fort Myers. Even with the 5 cent per gallon discount I paid $4.30 per gallon for premium on 2/15/22. I think that station ripped me off
I just did a gasbuddy search and see that premium runs
$3.79 per gallon at Sam's Club
$3.74 per gallon at Costco
$3.99 per gallon at Marathon
$4.06 per gallon at WaWa
$4.15 and $4.21 per gallon at two different Shell stations But, because I paid $40 for the $50 Shell gas card I actually only paid $3.45 per gallon.
$40 / 11.64 gallons = $3.448 per gallon
(The total for 11.64 gallons was $50 but I only paid $40 for the $50 card).
I recently had to pay $4.30 per gallon for premium fuel for my C6. Ouch! I was thinking about getting the lower cost fuel and adding a fuel additive to up the octane. Any thoughts?
You can use mid grade like every other tank it's not going to hurt the motor. Though you may not get the performance from premium, but just cruising no worries. Just make sure You use top to gas or use additives like Textron.as non top tier gas does put in additives
Yeah... I've been toying with the idea of a diesel Tahoe for the wife... But prices on diesel fuel has spiked way worse than prices on regular gasoline. So now I dunno, they're rated for like 26 highway, but people claim 30+ in the trucks. I was thinking the long term value would make it the smart option, but a grand cherokee L with av8 for 10k less maybe does make more sense. It's the nicer vehicle at least.
The thing that stands out to me is that investor middlemen can get involved via futures. Like, why for critical sustainment things like petrocarbons, food, etc is it legal for someone to come in, buy futures that don't exist yet, to sell them.once they're produced and just drive up the price.
The owners manual says that lower octane CAN be used that Premium is RECOMMENDED, and performance can suffer. I daily a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP with the superchanged 3.8, when I use regular like after a hurricane and gas is scarce I notice a
significant drop in power and fuel economy. THe computer does a decent job on reducing knock but when you look at KR on a scan tool as you start to bring in boost till you're really on it you start to see how much the timing is being retarded due to spark knock.
My advise, either use the fuel recomended in the owners manual or accept the potential issues that come from lower tier or lower octant fuel (lower tier can gum up the fuel system and lower octane will reduce power and using both will cause a split in the space
time continnum). Again my 2 cents.
Gas prices have certainly risen since March. Using premium gas is part of owning a car like a Corvette. I live in a rural area where choices are somewhat limited and have owned my 09 for about 10 months.
My understanding is Tier 1 gas would be from a specific oil company station like Exxon and Tier 2 would be sold at my local Circle K.
I would sure appreciate any information you can share on Tier 1 sellers.
