I recently had to pay $4.30 per gallon for premium fuel for my C6. Ouch! I was thinking about getting the lower cost fuel and adding a fuel additive to up the octane. Any thoughts?
It's basically 10 to 15 bucks more if you fill up with premium here. That's hardly an amount worth worrying about. It's gonna get worse before it gets better.
Just know the fuel additives only up the octane by points... meaning you fill up with 89 octane and add the additives.... you will have 89.3 or 89.4 octane. It is not full octane points. Just stick to the Premium fuel or pay waaaaaay more later.

Where do you live? Do you daily drive your C6?
My thoughts are:
You could always sell the car.
You could move to a state with lower gas prices, LMAO.
Have a second vehicle that gets better MPG and doesn't take premium fuel.
Or you could enjoy the C6 and not worry about gas prices.

Nothing we can do to control gas prices and we all have chosen a car that takes premium fuel. For me personally I could care less about MPG as it is something I have never checked in any vehicle I have ever owned. My advice is to fil up at like 1/2 tank and it takes some of the bite out of the cost.
There are two types of octane boosters and both can damage your car. First is a manganese compound abbreviated MMT. Since manganese is a metal, it does not leave in the exhaust as a gas, it leaves as a finely dispersed metal dust which damages your spark plugs and cats. While true that MMT is not nearly as damaging as lead used to be in the old days, it’s not harmless. It’s also easy as pie for a mechanic to see with his eyeballs (no fancy testing needed) whether MMT has been used. It’s visible as an orange coloring on both spark plugs and the cats, and it invalidates any and all warranty claims related to emissions systems.
The other class of octane boosters are various aniline compounds. While they will not harm cats or emissions systems, they are highly corrosive to fuel system components such as fuel pump, fuel lines, and injectors. Unlike ethanol, which is only mildly corrosive and even then affects only older cars before fuel system components were upgraded to handle it, even a brand new car can be corroded by aniline.
For perspective, I must admit that you are not likely to suffer serious damage by using a can of either type of octane booster here and there, on a tank of gas here and there. But if you use them routinely for any length of time, odds are you will have trouble.
My take, if you are worried about the MPH, or even the cost of fuel in the first place, time to sell the vet and go buy a hybrid instead.
This way, you not worried about the price of fuel every refueling since you getting much higher MPG, but instead, have the bigger bitch when it comes time to replace the batteries in the car when the warrenty on them runs out and they need to be replaced isntead.
Note, if you buy a used hybrid, make dam sure that the manufacture battery warrenty is transferred to you, and the time/ mileage still left on the warrenty is long enough in the first place.
As for fuels octane levels, only need 91 for LS3, while LS2, LS7, and LS9, need 93 octane to run there best. Below this, ECM does have a low octane table to run the engine on lower octane fuels, but since the motor will be pulling timing to run these fuels (to prevent knock), motor will make less HP isntead.
Then we get into Tier One fuels that do have cleaners in them, to kept the fuel level sensors and fuel system clean as well.

I know the feeling, just paid the same here in S Florida at the Mobil gas stations, good thing I have APP, so I paid little less, every penny saved helps.
I live in Alberta. Oil comes from here and our fuel prices are a lot more than yours. If you have a hot rod, pick up or a luxury you have to pay the price. Not just for fuel. I try to enjoy mine, am glad I can have it and try not to sweat the small stuff.

You pay the price because you elected people who hate you and don't care about your concerns.

I thought this forum was supposed to be free of politics. You missed my point. I wasn't complaining. Not that it matters but I personally didn't vote for any of the elected idiots as you keep saying you.

Personally, I don't think it matters who you vote for, they still don't care about you. Nothing political about it... Elected officials only care as much as they stay in power and get rich(er).
Just run a flex fuel setup and you can pump E85 if you have it nearby, you may lose about 30% mpg compared to your normal, but at least you can feel better about the $2~ price range.
