My C5 was an absolute bear to get the wheel off. After seeing numerous pics of failures I still took it off, slow and steady with the right tools. I had it flat bottomed and wrapped by RedLine. Absolutely loved it.
Pretty simple, Remove airbag - Use a 1/4" allen in the 2 holes to release. Loosen nut holding steering wheel on but do not remove. Wiggle the wheel and it should come loose. If you search the forum you will find some detailed nstructions with pics but it is really easy.
Click on the how to tab at the top of the page, click on C6 section, click on interior, page down and click on steering wheel removal. Not a bad job at all.
I definitely know the steps! Disconnect battery, wait 10 minutes, side holes to press and release airbag...
I may be wrong but I do not think the steering wheel shaft in the C5 was tapered at all. It took 3 days, I was in no hurry, and popped off with a bang when it finally let go!
The C6 videos look like a little wiggle, wiggle and it will come off. That would be nice!!

Mine was easy. I spent a lot of time getting the airbag cover off, which was supposed to be the easiest part. I just couldn't find the tabs by feel but eventually got it. Tightening the wheel back on was a little tricky without someone to hold onto the wheel but it is doable.
Agree with all the above. Remembering my C5 experience, I was dreading doing it on my C6 ... took all of five minutes, including removing the airbag (after the battery disconnect). Its easy, no puller required.
10 minute process. The wheel comes off by hand after a few taps. When loosening the nut don't take it all the way off. Take it most of the way and then pull on the steering wheel to get it loose. Once the wheel is loose finish removing the nut.
I know all the info posted here and everywhere else says “don’t need a puller”. I have swapped mine out twice, and I used a puller each time. Autozone has their loaner program for their tools, so I just went and borrowed a universal puller. It made the process super easy peasy.
I jerked, yanked, and pulled mine as hard as I could and couldn’t get it to release either time. I figured I wouldn’t need the puller the second time since I had just had the wheel off not too long before, but it was stuck on there solidly and wouldn’t release.
Since you can borrow a puller for free, I would personally go that route.

Yes, easy! But note that the 2005 has 4 release holes.
