Default another brake rotor question

Getting ready to redo the brakes - looking at brakemotive rotors on ebay - anyone who has these can you tell me if the rotor hats rust? The OEM ones need replacing and don't look that great with a rusted hub/hat.

thx

The hats on the Brakemotive rotors do NOT rust or discolor as they are zinc coated. They are the best rotors per dollar spent that I have found. YMMV

I prefer the hole pattern of BrakeLabs also on ebay. I use these on all of my vehicles and the vehicles I service.

also for a little more $$$$ Powerstop makes a Great product.

I've had the Brakemotive rotors for almost a year now and they still look great. Not super pleased with the pads I got with them but the rotors are nice.

Need to back it up a touch, since if the rotors have enough meat on them to turn them, then will only costs around $40 to turn them in the end, then another $5 for a can of high temp spray paint to coat the none pad contact areas on them.

Now if they do have enough meat so they can be turned, then not hard to just sand blast the rotors to remove the rusting before hand, high temp coat the hats and vanes so they don't rust, then take them down to be turned in the end. Hence by having them turned in the end, that will remove the paint from the brake pad areas , so you don't have to play the tape off so much when coating them.

Myself, have a bead blast cabinet, but for something like rotors that screen sifted play sand will knock off the rust quickly, and since the yard always could use a bit of play sanded added to it, have one of these that I use outdoors with air compressor when I need to clean up metal instead.

Note, safety glasses and wear a respirator why blasting.

Also, if you have a power washer at the house, them there is a sand blast kit that you can buy to use with it, but the dry system is a lot faster and you don't have to worry about the cast iron rotors rusting up quickly from the water you using in the first place.

Like others have said, since the Brakemotive rotors are zinc coated ... no rust:

Even stainless steel will run in a given amount of time and exposure, and as for the zinc coating, may be a little more resilient to water exposure oxidizing then not plated, there are some cleaning chemicals that will stain/off color the zinc coating very quickly instead.

Brake motive price was right. i really like the rotors (more focus on slots instead of the gimmick that is cross drilled) The pads i could certainly pass on.... Got a squeal under moderate braking, pulled greased and reseated no change, did not come with replacement hardware, ordered and replaced the hardware, squeal is still there. Assuming its just cheap pads more upset i spent time/energy and a extra 20 dollars on unneeded hardware and still didn't solve the problem. Will probably replace pads very soon when i feel like pulling out the pads for a 4rth time....

Which pads are squealing, the ceramic pads or the Carbon Fiber/ceramic pads?
i ordered my rotors and pads from brakemotive on Ebay. A buddy has two vehicles running Z23 CF pads. He hasn't had any squealing or issues with his.
I contacted Brakemotive via Ebay after my order arrived and asked if I could upgrade to the CF/ceramic pads. They sent me a shipping label for a FedEx return and did an even exchange. The new pads arrived with new hardware whereas the original shipment did not have hardware as you mentioned.

Ceramic. Which i thought tend to be the quieter material. Nothing about carbon fiber in the listing or packaging. I was hoping they break in and quiet down but... 500 miles now, its probably not going to happen.

Carbon Fiber/ceramic pads are the only way to go for me.

When I bought my 07 with 10500 miles 5 years ago the Oem pads sometimes squealed like a pig. After 1500 miles or so they quieted down for some reason . So maybe you'll get lucky and they will stop. It's definitely annoying when your brakes announce your arrival!
Good luck,
