FED heads, stock cam, headers with no cats. It’s nothing major. What are my options. I’m thinking I really do t need a dyno tune?
I was considering the HP tuner that connects To my iPhone for remote tuning?
im in central Florida, was quoted $550 to dyno tune, not including the tuner. Seems pricey considering my “mods”.
well its the dyno time and HP credits that cost money.........regardless with heads, headers and NO cats you need some tuning......you could probably get it done without the dyno and a street tune.....where ya located?
Pay a tuner the 550, that is a normal price. You don’t need to buy anything else. If you ever do any mods later on that same tuner can do updates at a lower price because you have already paid for the “HP tuners credit”
in this market $550 is a steal for a dyno tune, Take it to the tuner, The HP Tuners RTD route will just end up costing you more cause youll have to buy the device and still pay a tuner to do the tune. A local shop near me is charging $800 for an all motor dyno tune before credits. Seems to be the going rate or higher these days
If you could get it to Futral in Louisiana, you would be happy..... I think I paid $700 for a three pull dyno tune and a live on the street tweak session. Alan does great work and hope to see him mid 2023 for a cam install.
I was just having this same conversation with a buddy about my tbss, similar mods. My buddy is a semi experienced tuner for a smaller shop in NC.
For a non forced induction car with overall typical mods, a canned tune from a competent tuner with a lot of experience will get you 99 to 95% of the gains. Someone like a pcm of NC or similar has enough experience that you're not going to missing out on much power vs a dynamic tune. The further you stray from basic bolt on, the more you're leaving on the table. In your case, aftermarket heads are a wildcard.
Personally I would get a cam and a dynamic tune at the same time.
BTW, the RTD device is really cool for customers. You cam log for your tuner, send them.logs, then pull down a new tune really easily and quickly. Great for street tunes, less great for people trying tonsell a dyno tune. But if you want a boutique tuner to do your car, you can do virtual sessions real easy.
Honestly, I'm surprised a device like this doesn't exist that uses machine learning to modify your tune. Feed it a wide band o2 signal, and the obd info, let it collect data and then send you a note when its ready to upload a new tune.
