honestly if your just trying to achieve 30 rwhp and you want no lope and you dont want to do headers i feel like youd be better off to just do a few bolt ons and call it a day. The amount of labor involved for a Cam swap will barely justify the gain you'll get with that small of a cam. Rod mod intake and a throttle body would probably get you close with a tune
I believe in "Sanity Clause", as in there's sanity in the above. Adding a tiny cam is a really dumb move. Yes, a stupid small cam can return miniscule gains and get near perfect manners. But, why do it? You have perfect manners now. Take that money and invest in Cotera Energy, Devon Energy, Exxon, etc. A tiny cam is a really dumb waste of capital.
I wanted like 30-35 more rwhp (yes will be getting a dyno tune)
2011 GS , A6 all sock . not using headers on this one ..
I'm about to install a Under-drive pulley
Gosh this crowd is harsh..
OP, I picked up 41 SAE rwhp on an LS2, with every bolt on not even maximized, short tube headers, tuned. Imagine what a nice custom baby cam would exponentially do to your setup!
Love the car . I didn't wanna over do it like i did with my old Trans Am
Man dont overthink it... C6s arent F bodies... I run a BTR Stage 2 on a stock convertor with full exhaust, car makes just shy of 500 wheel and its a joy to drive, sounds amazing, and I wouldn't hesitate to hop in it tomorrow and drive it across the country with the a/c blowing and the radio on. These things are super reliable and Gen 4 motors respond awesomely to mods. I get where your coming from, when you go down that Rabbit hole in an f-body you start breaking stuff, that wont be the case with the c6. The driveline in these cars is pretty bullet proof until you start making over 600hp.
That 40 hp upgrade with a cam will cost you 6k or more. Really not wanting to do much? Get a large torque converter and a tune. That you will feel.
My stock 2009 after tune was 407hp 439 tq
Futral installed mine..... Picked up around 30ish rwhp. 2011 A6 with ALL STOCK EXHAUST!!!!!
Stock converter also... Slight push through the brakes sometimes, but nothing that would be a deal breaker.

I am currently kicking around this same question. As others have said im leaning on BRT stage 2, it seems to fit best what i am going for 2013 Base model
#1 reliability/durability (as much as possible with a aftermarket cam)
#2 Drivability, i have a manual and some cams will make the car buck at low RPM, like stop and go traffic i often get caught in. Stock LS3 i already have problems trying to inch along at 5mph and i feel like im just EATING up the clutch
#3 a reasonable HP gain (with headers + tune i expect 480~ with conservative tune)
#4 and dead last, sound (i personally don't care for cosmetic "chop", i don't mind it if required for gains but its not on my radar)
My only end goal would be to keep up with a stock Zo6, what i should have bought in the first place! (had budget allowed) think after this cam headers i might get close.
