Default Mice

have a 2008 that I store in a garage in northern Michigan in the winter. When I took out of storage I found acorns in the glove compartment, trunk and both storage bins in the trunk. Question: How can they get into a sealed trunk let alone bring in acorns to these spots? Any non comical suggestions on how to keep them out?

I never knew mice to collect acorns. Sounds more like squirrels. They do make squirrel repellent and there’s a lot of videos and information online on various smells etc that squirrels do not like.
It probably wouldn’t be hard for one of those little critters to crawl up through a duct or something somewhere to gain access to the cabin. These cars are not water/airtight.
I would just get me some form of “rodent repellent“ and see how that works out.

Put mothballs on the floor around the car.

Have you checked the cabin air filter? Is the door still on it? Rodents somehow get in there, and make nests. As to the rest of your car, if a smaller squirrel like a red squirrel got into the cabin air filter box, I’ve seen first hand (thankfully not my Vette) what their chisel teeth can get though. An air duct would be no problem. And then into your glovebox from behind. And they’re strong. Lifting the cubby hatch would be no problem. Forest rats on steroids 🐿

They get in through the openings the wiper arms go through then into the top side of the cabin filter. If they go through the cabin filter then there in the car. Try dryer sheets half in the cabin filter . I flood the car with them in the winter outside under a cover

Put Bounce dryer sheets in all 4 exhaust tips as well as under the hood and anywhere else you want. Mouse problem will be over.

Put a bunch of sticky boards (rat size) in the garage with a big dollop of peanut butter in the middle, catch them before they are a problem.

I also put bait stations outside and feed the little bastards all they can eat so they don't make it into the garage.

I had a motorhome where something was bringing in large acorns. Turned out to be a pack rat. Those suckers cause some damage. Steel wool in any openings help keep them out. Dryer sheets did nothing in my motorhome. I had to steel wool and expand foam any openings more than 1/2 inch.

I have one of
these these
wired into each of my cars. Mice used to be a problem. Not any more with this device. Night and day difference. It works because of the varying ultrasound and lights that mice don't get used to. Love it. No odors like you get from detergents, mothballs, or dryer sheets either.

I use green cubes from my local hardware store and cotton ***** soaked in peppermint oil and this is working very well! The peppermint oil is expensive so renewal must be often. You can use vinegar also on cotton ***** as a deterent!

Default Rodents eat wiring!

Equally important to finding out how they got in & keeping them out (whatever "them" happens to be) is to check for wiring damage. Whether mice or squirrels, all rodents seem to like to chew on wiring.

As a former professional (IE Licensed) pest control technician for over 5 years, 1st step is figure out how they are getting in. Next step is fixing the problem found in step 1, prevention is more important than control. Next go online to domyown.com and get:
https://www.domyown.com/protecta-evo...on-p-2243.html

5 or 6 of them should be suffiicent for a normal (3,000 sq ft) house, place in the garage near where you find droppings parallel to a wall. Mice and rats run along walls also place near exterior walls on all sides of the house. Then fill it with:
https://www.domyown.com/final-allwea...lox-p-336.html

Yes it sounds expensive at first but that pail of rodent blocks will last 2 years if kept in a closed container out of extreme heat and direct sun. You should check each of the bait boxes weekly and replenish as needed. Cats and kids can't get into
the bait stations. I recommend ZIP tying them to something sturdy or gluing them with construction adhesive to a concrete paver so they don't dissapear.

MUCH cheaper than replacing fuel lines, brake lines and wiring not to mention possibly getting into a wreck.

Just my 2 cents.

I store in a open sided carport. Last summer we got a bag of bird feed my wife forgot to put away for 3+ days, pretty sure ours was rats and/or mice. The crapped all over her subaru engine and my truck engine, they brought 2 cups worth of the seed into her center console and chewed up some of the inside of her dash, now her car will forever smell like mouse ****. Lucky we didnt get any "major" damage.

Since i got the vette i bought one of these weighted covers to help, Def do all the mothballs ect others have mentioned but this might help as well.

I got me one of these for the garage years ago and have never had a problem since. I originally got it because they were chewing and crapping all over my guitar cases. No sign of that anymore. These bad boys work really well. I keep this within about 5 feet of my car. So far, so good. For me, just a deterrent wasn’t good enough. I needed them to be removed completely.
