Default Black wheels

Those who had chrome wheels on their C6 Z06 and went with black wheels, how did you do it? Powder coated? Aftermarket black wheels? Strip the chrome and paint black? Do C7 black OEM wheels swap over direct fit?

I went aftermarket and the C7 wheels are a direct fit as long as you are going base to base or wide body to wide body.

When I switched from chrome to black wheels, I used a 19mm socket, a breaker bar, and a torque wrench. Nothing to it.

I plastidipped my C6 base wheels black as a temporary fix until I want to spend the money on new wheels. Not as smooth/glossy as paint or powerdercoat but it does the job and if you end up not liking it its temporary.

If you are not 100% sold on spending the money for powder coating, new wheels of even have the chrome striped and then painting the wheels you may want to look at PlastiDip and their Hyperdip products. If you follow their instructions, you can do all 4 wheels in less than a day. I did mine in the Shadow Black HyperDip. It is more of a satin finish. They now have a Piano Black that is glossier plus a few other colors.
As long as you do the number of coats as they say, it does exact what they say it will do for removal, I did not like the look after a few months and decided to remove it. Took less than an hour for all four wheels and it peeled right off. I would not recommend this as the actual finish, as it is a little course and hold break dust more then a chrome or finished wheel, but if you are not 100% sold on black wheels it is a good way to make that change.

I stripped and sanded my stock wheels, primed, then painted dark gray. They came out great and only cost me $50. However it was a ton of work. My wheels were 16 yrs old and required a lot of brush wheel and sanding. I think it was about 20 hours labor I spent on them over the course of two weekends. I will not do that again.
