I have a 2009 base engine, bought new. Has 25k miles and driven about 1-1.5k miles a years. Always garaged and on a maintenance charger.
Problems started to occur a few years, and now more. I think it is a bad BCM (I am not good on the computer stuff on cars) and need some help as to if that is the problem. If so the best cure.
About 6 years ago the Bluetooth function for the phone was not working correctly. It couldn't hear me. Didn't think much about it as I don't use the phone very often. I simply took the number out of the system.
About 5 or so years ago the display for the AC/Heat would start to flash on and off. Often it would stop the next time the car was started.
Approx 2 months ago when getting on the Parkway and speeding up to merge all of a sudden it began to run rough and flashed traction control problems. Drove it home (running rough) brought it to the local dealer (always hate doing that) the replaced plugs and wires and $800 bill it seems to run ok.
On a trip to Cooperstown, NY a few days ago (400 miles r/t) the car ran fine, but problems seem to pop up, I loaded a new phone in the Bluetooth,, worked a couple of time and then either didn't recognize the phone, or it couldn't hear my command. AC/Heat display started to flash ago, and on a stop and start it turned off and I had to turn it back on.
A couple of times the headlights came on when starting and wouldn't go off when there was plenty of light (the sensor is clean). I had to manually turn off and it was OK.
Radio also seems somewhat erratic.
Are all these symptoms because of a bad BCM ? If so can it be re-programmed or do I need a new one. If I need a new one does anyone has an idea of the cost at the local Chev dealer.
My guess is it is not the BCM. The climate controls are a known weak spot on a C6. Many have had to replace the climate controls do to weak solder points inside the control unit.
The rough engine issue you had recently, could have just been a loose plug wire that needed to be pushed in better. I have seen that come up a few times on this forum. Could have possibly been a simple cost less fix. Since new plugs and wires solved the issue, my guess is it was not BCM related either and mosts likely a loose plug wire.
That leaves you with your radio/head unit issue. My advise is to do like many others have and get it replaced with a modern aftermarket unit. Should solve your phone issues and give you all the modern features available today plus better sound.
It's an old car, things are aging. You can try picking up a used climate control module off ebay or somewhere else. That and an aftermarket head unit could solve all your issues.
Also, if you do replace or swap out the climate control unit, it would be very easy to do an aftermarket radio at the same time since the center console would already be off.

What is the climate control unit - a pull and plug item, or something else. I'm very old school. I've had my '62 for 50 years and did a complete frame off by myself a few years back. Also have a C-5 (2000) and just did the column lock module a few weeks ago (that was the only thing the car needed since I bought it new, otherwise glitch free)

I'm talking about the control unit with the buttons and display. They are known to go bad and start doing some strange things. Supposedly some bad soldering inside the unit causes the issues eventually. I can't say for sure if that's your issue, but I would start there as my guess would be that is your culprit. It's plug and play, just need to make sure you find a good working replacement.
Thanks - any idea where to find one and how does one know it is good ? What would be a fair price ? Is it still available from GM?
I don’t think you can find them new anymore. EBay has used ones. I’m not sure where else to look. Unless another forum member has one they are willing to part with.
I just had my daily driver Ram Hemi 1500 in the dealer to change the spark plugs. Bill came back at $980 for only plugs, no wires. After some back and forth, because the girl at the service department gave me the wrong estimate for plugs, we agreed on $600. But still unbelievable that they wanted to charge me basically $1k to change the spark plugs.
Here are just some prices for plugs and wires for an LS engine. AC Delco Platinum Plugs Set (8) $54.10......Iridium NGK's (8) $58.17........Texas Speed 10mm LS plug wires $115.49.......AC Delco professional wire set $39.96 (Amazon)........I can change my plugs and wires on my car in less than an hour. Unbelievable that labor to do the job on a C6 would bring $650-700 for an hour of work.
