Getting a "no valid disc" error on my CD player in my 2012 GS. Tried several different discs. They are store bought music CD's. Anyone seen this before? How do I fix it?

A dirty lens in the player can cause this problem. If so, this might work

 

go buy a disc cleaner

 

Probably a dirty/dusty optical read head. Get a can of compressed air & use the included tube to direct the air into the DVD/CD slot. Try this out and report back on results.

Mine did the same thing....nothing that I tried worked until I bought another unit and put it in ....had to have the dealer marry it to the car though.

 

so i used a the lens cleaner disc and it will not recognize that. also blasted air inside the unit and still nothing. guess it is dead?
this seemed to have happened right after i had the battery out of the car for a few days to check/charge it. not sure if that matters.

 

Sounds like a replacement is due. This would be a good time to get a modern aftermarket head unit.

Mine does it too, 2012. GPS doesn't do **** either. Post up a recommendation for a head unit.

 

I put a Kenwood DDX67065S in my 2006 convert. This model supports CD's and has provisions for both front and rear cameras ( another upgrade that you will be glad to have) The Kenwood also supports Car Play, Android Auto, you will be able to use your phone for GPS and music, So, call Crutchfield and let them know what you are looking for in a new head unit.They will help you out and have great tech staff that will help you with any installation problems (I called four times) Oh, they are expensive but you'll be happy with the results.

 

If you are getting a replacement HU, determine if you want a quality name brand or cheaper off brand, CD/DVD capability, wired or wireless Carplay and/or Android Auto, XM, Onstar, Front or rear USB, touch screen, vendor GPS or smart phone based GPS, Bluetooth, a volume ****, one or more camera and/or A/V inputs, factory or aftermarket amp, subwoofer and/or speakers, floating or fixed screen, steering wheel controls, price range, self or paid installation, then call Crutchfield or log onto their website and follow their recommended advice. You get what you pay for but only pay for what you need/want.

I got a JVC KW-V660BT (made by Kenwood) with a 2 year warranty on sale 2 weeks ago from Crutchfield with their mounting system and pre-wired harness because I wanted CD/DVD, wired Android Auto for music/apps/Google Maps GPS, Bluetooth, microphone for phone calls, no volume ****, no XM or Onstar, rear USB (with flush mount extension), one camera and one A/V input (2 cameras bought from Amazon), keeping factory Bose amp/speakers, fixed screen, no steering wheel controls (none on my 06 C6), touch screen, that I would install myself for under $500, total. I knew what I wanted, what I needed, what I wanted to pay and got exactly what I wanted and needed.
