2010 Grand Sport. Last couple of days, have to push the button two or three timed to get the rear hatch to pop open. Then closing it, have to drop it several times. Sounds like a motor of solenoid running when closing. Anyone had to fix this?
From your description it sounds like the soft-close latch is beginning to fail and will require replacement. The sound you hear is the latch motor running that provides the soft-close function.
The rear hatch is heavy, so you should be sure that your rear hatch struts are working properly and not allowing the hatch to slam shut & damage the latch. If not, replace those as well.
There are several threads that have some detailed instructions on the replacement process. I do know that RockAuto sells the latch pull down motor assembly.
Hi Big Jay,
Had a similar problem last year and in the end a new charged battery was the solution. Hint, check your battery amps and voltage. It may be alright to crank the engine but not powerful enough to do other things easily. Simple check before you tackle other jobs such as the trunk mechanism.
I had a similar problem. I removed the switch (going through the right inside tail light opening), cleaned out all of the dust that was inside the soft cover and affecting the button movement. Re-installed the switch and it has worked perfectly since. I don't believe the switch had ever been removed since the car was built. So 16 years of dust finally took its toll. Let us know what you find. Here is the link for the rear hatch release button fix...https://www.corvetteforum.com/how-to...-button-368451
Well it turns out mine is not a problem with the switch. To be honest, I never knew there was a switch back by the license plate. Then I have only had this car for 12 years.
When I push that button, it acts just like if I use the fob or the button on the dash. push it about 3 or four times and the hatch will pop open .Try and close it and after 4 or five tries, it will close slightly, but not enough to turn out the rear interior lights, I can push down hard on it and the lights go out.
Looks like I may have to get the complete mechanism from Rock Auto. Thoughts??
