I am looking at an Innova 3160rs diagnostic cose scanner on sale on Amazon for $211. Do any of you have something similar? I also looked at their 5510, but they say it is the same thing. What are your opinions on such a device or something similar?

I have an older model, the 31603. It's been very useful for the few times I've had to use it on my vette and 4runner. If you like to figure out issues and fix them yourself when possible, it's definitely worth it.
IMHO “code readers” are useless…you are better served buying something like this Launch which has full bidirectional capability and is cheaper too…Launch makes some excellent scan tools !!
To be fair, the Innova 3160RS is a lot more than just a "code reader" and will work on all newer vehicles, not just GM vehicles. That said, I just ordered one of those $94 Black Friday deal Launch X431 GM scan/reader tools mentioned above for my C6. It seems to be too good of a deal at that price to not give it a try, even if I apparently can't use it on our Tacoma or Lexus.

Yes, I’m not familiar with the Innova tool but when you said it was a scan “code reader” a code reader usually just reads OBD2 DTC’s….they may have other functions I don’t know about…Techstream is the OE factory scan tool to Toyota, Lexus and Scion.
