Default Back-up Camera

Good Afternoon folks,

I'm curious to know what y'all are using for backup cameras. I have a Kenwood Excelon DMX709S that Id like to hook a camera into. I want something that is inconspicuous. So far the only thing I've found that I like is a camera Crux CUL-03 that is a lip mount camera.
If you have pictures of your installed camera as well that would be great My car is a 2008

Can't help with your question, sorry, but I do wanna ask if you put the Kenwood unit in yourself??? Or had it installed??? I have a 2012 Grand Sport and would like to replace the radio/nav unit for several reasons including my desire not for a backup camera but instead for a "pull forward" camera... The Grand Sport has a nose only 5 1/2 inches off the ground and the slightest bump of a concrete parking lot stop (taller than the bottom of my car's nose) would do significant damage... I'm a retired electronics engineer but mechanical stuff is not my best skill... I've looked at some YouTube videos of what it takes to remove and install a new unit and, well, I'd rather hire a pro to do it, I think... Thus why I'm asking about your experience??? Did you do it yourself and if so, was it hard, easy, what??? thanks...

I installed it myself, getting everything apart wasn't too bad, it will go significantly faster my next time around. I bought the harness and interface prewired from Crutchfield for an extra 25 bucks. well worth the little bit of extra money for it to be done correctly. everything came apart with basic hand tools. the plugs for the 12 volt outlets were harder to get apart, but no biggie once you figure out where to squeeze. I was done, taking my time, in about 2 hours

Thanks.... and I read someplace that one has to install a new Siruis-XM radio antenna if you want to continue with satellite radio, which I do... I also read that the existing antenna is located (in my car, a convertible) behind the "waterfall" as I was told it's called that sits just to the right of the driver, again in a convertible??? You know anything about satellite antenna replacement with a new unit such as your's??? thanks for getting back to me... And do you know whether or not Crutchfield has any helpful feedback such as videos or even help from their personnel if one was to buy from them and then get stuck???

I'm pretty sure the unit I installed and the integration interface do NOT retain satellite radio usability. I'm not sure what would be involved in retaining satellite radio. Crutchfield has great customer service, and I believe they may have videos as well. If not, I'm sure you-tube has some videos of radio installs for these cars.

Much appreciated, thanks... Good luck with your camera search... I would be jazzed to have both pull forward and backup cameras as my car is a joy to drive but not so much fun to back into stalls, say, or to pull up to these concrete parking lot bumpers... I've considered buying a "curb alert" but I've heard they have some big downsides as well... I recently replaced the nose splitter after I had some new clear bra work done on the now 10 year old car... Old splitter just had a few scuffs but doing this refresh, I decided to replace that as well. The dealership had a hard time finding the new splitter and it cost, well, a lot... So I don't want to bump it... So far, my approach is to stop way short of any concrete bumpers... Thanks for your help...

I actually just finished putting in a new Sony deck in my C6 and love it. Install wasn’t too bad, just take your time.I would also go with a double deck unit like the Sony but only uses a single chassis so you have extra room for the new wire unit. I highly recommend getting everything needed from Crutchfield w/the wire ready service. It comes with instructions but I found corvette forum member directions a lot better. Just search.

A few tips, the stock shift **** just simply pulls off by pulling up after removing the side screw. I kept trying to turn it lol. Put seat protectors down as the passenger side piece made a small scratch 😡🤬 in the leather. Preroute all of your other connections gps, mic ect before installing the deck.

I think that you might want to look into a device called "Curb Alert." I have used one on 2 C5s and on my current C6 with good results.

Have an Alpine stereo with the works and a backup camera. Got that one because it is front camera compatible

Can barely see it next to the right of the tag. Got it from Crutchfield and also added one for the front.

You can't reuse the stock XM tuner, you'll need to purchase this XM tuner to go with your aftermarket system. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_220SXV...0V1-Tuner.html The cord connecting it to the head unit is fairly short, but you can install the tuner behind the dash, under the HVAC controls, it fits nicely there. You can however, with the use of some adapters, reuse the stock XM antennas, this thread will show you the adapters you need to purchase to achieve this, see post #11 for updates on the cables. Let me know if you have any questions. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-xm-tuner.html

Thanks... What sort of stops me is I don't know where to go to get ALL the info I would need, the complete set of instructions on how to do this ENTIRE removal and reinstall... Does Crutchfield give you that if you buy a system from them??? You're giving me good input about the Sirius-XM tuner and then some guidance on a possible way to reuse the XM antenna but what else do I need to know to do the ENTIRE job and where did any of you guys learn this to enable you to do your own installs...

My local chevy dealer who specializes in Corvettes gave me a name of a stereo place that was good and could do the job and I contacted them... They were in the process of moving and I got the idea they were more interested in window tinting than in doing a nav/radio unit swap for me... So a no go there... Still looking for maybe some good stereo install place around where I live which is in a large retirement community half way between Sacramento and the SF Bay Area... Anyone know of a good place in northern Ca??? I truly appreciate all the good feedback...

And El_Steveo... My apologies as my questions about the nav/radio unit install sort of highjacked your original post where you're asking about specifics of a backup camera to find and install... My apologies... You got a response or two to your original question which I will have too if I ever get to the place you are... Hopefully some more help will come your way on cameras and where to install them...

I suggest, if the head unit you're looking at is multi camera capable, that you install both front and rear cameras, that's what I did with my Pioneer system and it's real handy. Also, if you have any more questions, I suggest you post them on the Audio/Electronics section of this forum, there's a lot of us that hang out there that are more than willing to help with your install questions. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...lectronics-20/

A good place to start is this thread from the How To section of the forum. https://www.corvetteforum.com/how-to...igation-368176 And like I previously mentioned, the Audio/Electronics section of this forum has a lot of good info, plus people who'll help walk you through the install, it not really that difficult to do.

Thanks... Appreciate the help... I'm a retired EE so you'd think I'd dive right in and have it all figured out... but.... Mechanically I'm somewhat challenged and I've watched a couple videos that shows what it takes to simply remove the fascia around the unit... Makes me want to find a good stereo install place that knows C6 corvettes... But we will see... thanks again for the help...

When I recently installed a JVC HU in my C6, I installed this backup camera
Amazon Amazon
into the camera input in the back of the JVC. Works great when I shift into reverse as it is supposed to! I have also wired and tested, but not yet installed another, similar camera into the AUX input into the back of the JVC for a front view (using a R/W/Y RCA to 3.5 A/V cable adaptor). It works fine, I just need to switch the HU to AUX input to see the front camera video. I am just figuring out how to route the cable from the front of the car into the interior. I bought the JVC and wiring harness from Crutchfield and they made it all easy.

I have a 2005 base corvette with the factory non BOSE head unit and speakers. What is the latest and greatest being used today for satellite XM reception, AM/FM multi-media systems with front camera and rear camera? Five years ago I recall the Kenwood unit with 2 year warranty was #1 and Pioneer also was good but with technology moving as fast as it does what is the most current latest n greatest headunit and speakers to get to upgrade from the old factory CD AM/FM headunit?

Same situation here. I had 2 estimates years ago and the cost was $1,700 from 2 shops which did not include new speakers.
