Quick question. Can you install a steering wheel that does not have an air bag on the C6, specifically a 2005, and if so, what are the airbag connection issues? I’d like a new flat bottom wheel but they all seem quite expensive. Thanks!

So because they are "quite expensive " you are willing to drastically increase the chances of paying with your life by eliminating a safety device?
I installed a steering wheel from a 2012 on my 05 so I could add steering wheel controls, of course, as you know, the 05's air bag doesn't work on the newer steering wheels. I had to change the clock spring to a 07+ clock spring, the air bag I bought off eBay,,and the steering wheel I bought off the "For Sale/Want To Buy" section of this forum. Then to have the controls work, it involved swapping wires from the new connector on the new clock spring, to the old connector, then running three new wires to my aftermarket head unit. I'm sure if you install a wheel with out an air bag you'd throw some codes and have the air bag light illuminated, besides, like previously mentioned, probably wouldn't be a good idea. Here's a photo of the newer wheel on my 05.
I agree that is an improvement. I’m not concerned about radio controls, and I really would like a flat bottom steering wheel. As you mentioned, my concern is throwing codes as well as connectivity.
I hear ya! Unfortunately on a retirement income, a $1000 steering wheel is rather steep, and since my plastic front piece of the air bag has a long crack running down it, which from what I’ve seen the only fix is a replacement air bag, a simple steering wheel fits my budget. No offense to you, but if budget constraints didn’t happen, heck I’d just go buy a newer Z06! . One has to work with what they’ve got.

Well then the new wheel should fit right on, and I believe a newer air bag should connect right up to it without needing a new clock spring, providing you won't have the stereo controls.
This was my Chrysler 300 SRT8 after my front tire blew out and sent me head on into a telephone pole at 60 mph. I wear my seatbelt 100% of the time but am happy I had the airbag. No way I'd give it up on my Corvette.
