Default Timing cover

Hello everyone, I’m currently in the middle of taking timing cover out. On the way to work the other day got CEL for cam sensor p0341 i believe. Got to work and wasn’t busy, pulled the cam sensor out and it was ate up by the reluctor. Didn’t make sense thought maybe bolts were backing out of sprocket or maybe cam walking but highly unlikely according to my shop foreman. Put it all back together took it home and pulled everything off the front so i could get an eye on the timing cover. Apparently someone has been in it before, they put an aftermarket timing cover on it with an inspection plate on the front, can’t find it anywhere online. Turns out timing cover was too shallow and cam sensor didn’t sit flush on the cover and was touching the reluctor so when they started it, it just ate up the cam sensor. So now i’m in the process of pulling everything out, my only issue is i have no lift. have to pull steering rack with car on the ground. to pull steering rack i have to pull abs block, power steering pump and bracket, and also alternator. Does anyone have any advice for me. First time having to do this and i’ve only had the car a month or so lol. My luck i guess. Car only has 41k.

This video describes how to replace the harmonic balancer without removing the steering rack. It seems like a much simpler method and I think it would apply to your case.

To the best of my knowledge all C6's have the same front suspension. I did the balancer on my '05 and pulled the rack.....NOT fun or easy. This method in the video is something I've never seen or heard of before however it sure does look a lot easier than pulling the rack if it in fact can be done as the guy shows. Not disconnecting the steering hoses and messing with the ABS block and fittings would be really nice. I tore up the back of my hands on the radiator that I looked like I'd been in a bar fight!!!

I ended up getting the rack out today unfortunately. but i believe mine just has the leaf spring in the front but i haven’t paid enough attention to see if there’s a shock but it would only make sense if there was not sure why i even asked haha.
