Default When does a C6 engine...

Was talking to a Corvette Club member here locally and this topic came up...At what point does an engine become a motor?

We were discussing BHP numbers...so what do you guys think? 600BHP...700? More?

To me an engine is gasoline powered, a motor is electric powered.

I feel like 99.9% of people would consider an engine and a motor the same thing for the most part

Technically an engine turns chemical potential energy into mechanical movement...a motor turns electrical potential energy into mechanical movement. But at some point an engine becomes a motor...at least in the racing world.

Why aren't Motorcycles called Enginecycles?

The usage is historically inconsistent. Motor boat, motor car, and as pointed out, motor cycle, and yet most of those are powered by gasoline engines. And I don’t ever recall seeing or hearing “internal combustion motor”. It’s always “internal combustion engine”, which it should be. Happy motoring, all.

And some engines are powered by jet fuel (kerosene)

And I have never heard anyone call a jet engine a 'motor'

An engine is a type of motor. A motor is not limited to electrical power. An engine is just being more specific in defining what type of energy it is converting into force or motion.

It also says "For gasoline engines" on the right side of the bottle, so now I'm all kinds of messed up. What are we supposed to do!?

Is an Engine a Motor ?

“People use both interchangeably, but the difference is that motors run on electricity and engines run on combustion.
The engine converts various forms of fuels into mechanical force, while the motor transforms electrical energy into mechanical energy.”
