I have been scared to death of trying to install the seat emblems and having the edges not stick. So, I tried a test on the seat covers I removed from the car. Used a square patch from something or other thing.

I heated up the surface of the leather so the glue would not get cold to soon. As I feared. On the test seat covers, the edges of the patch did not hold so well. Corvette head rest emblems had the same kind of glue backing as the test patch I tried on the old seat covers. Any suggestions?

Did you clean the area and test with painters tape like I mentioned in one of my replies above? It took me a considerable amount of time using denatured alcohol to remove all the oil in my headrest. The tape will curl or release if oil is present. Once it stays stuck for 5 minutes or so they are ready to go.

Oops! No, I did not do the painters tape test. I still have the old skins laying in the garage. I'll do another test before venturing out with the newly installed skins. Me not paying attention. Thanks.

I like the way these look. I'm curious how they'd look on my red Braum seats

Very disappointing in how this is not working out. On the old leather I removed from the car, I used 90% ISP, as well as Acetone to remove any and all traces of protectants from the old skins. Did the painters tape to test. The painters tape stayed in place and did not peel up. Using an iron on patch I had laying around. Pre heated the skin. Placed the patch on the preheated area and covered the patch and applied heat with a cloths iron. After cooling, the freaking patch came right off with the edges not sticking. I cannot take the chance on my newly installed leather seat covers when I cannot make this work on the old skins.

It seems so simple, but I cannot get this right starting with the old skins. What else can I try?

Seems like you did everything I did it is just not working out. Maybe take them to a upholstry shop or call one and get their opinion.

Yeah. Go figure! A guy in my Vette club has an embroidery business and can do custom work right on the leather itself. I’ll have to take the seatbacks off the seat frame. I was trying to do this on the cheap. So much for that! Thanks for the help, I appreciate it. That is what I love about this forum!
