My turn
Went to drive away from the gas pump this morning, put the car in D and it went in reverse. Put it in park and that was all I got. Shifter cable said adios. Call a roll back and told the dispatcher that the car was stuck in park and the back wheels would have to be lifted. She said, no problem. $170 tow. Waited an hour and called to see where the tow was. She said she would check and call back. Driver calls and said 45 minutes and I ask how he was going to load my car. He says, I will just drag it. I say, do not even come. My buddy was there in his truck and he has a scissor jack. I decide why not have a look. The bushing was gone from the cable. I hang the cable on the pin and it holds long enough to get me home. Oreilly's has the bushings. It took 5 tries and I got it back together. If it did not go on try number 5 I was going to drop the exhaust. Sort of a win I guess.

Good job! Mine went on the other end and I still need to change the exhaust one.

Good to hear experiences like this. So many get on here and tell of that $170 tow and $500 repair bill for a cable bushing.
Mine failed in a parking lot. Buddy brought a floor jack and jack stand, Did a temp cable to trans reattach and he followed me to make sure I got home, Did an $8 repair the next morning.

Some tow truck drivers seem to know that the shift lever on the tranny can be moved by hand out of park so that no dragging is necessary. Your case with your buddy's help worked better and saved you some $$.
