Hi there,
I can't wait to get my car back. It has been in shop getting headers and new exhaust. For anyone in the greater Chicago, Joliet area I recommend Straighline Performance in New Lenox. I have known Nick McGrath for over 20 years and this is the third corvette he has done for me. Tomorrow he will put it on the dyno and sort out everything. Nick did my first C5 and the car was great. So I'm excited to get this done. Next week it goes in to my local Chevrolet dealer's body shop to install the Moromoto headlights. I'll post some more pics when the car is finished with the new seats next month.

Question...Do they do emissions inspections in Illinois? How would that pass?
They do testing in certain areas. Mostly around the major cities like Chicago. The new exhaust has catalytic convertors and this install requires that 2 of the 4 cats be deleted from the cars computer. There is no testing in my area here in central Illinois.

You have that right. I spend too much on my Corvettes. I just know the wealthiest person buried in the cemetary is still dead. You can't take it with you...
If I were you I'd have a talk with Nick...maybe he could install your new headlights. I have the same ones, installed them myself, really easy! If he can do all the stuff he just did to your car he Can definitely do the headlights! Anyplace other than a dearlership!! I've bought numerous new cars/trucks from the dealership and they've given me free oil changes and I tell them don't worry, you'll never see this vehicle again!! Ask Nick!!

That's the LAST place I would take my car for that...not only will a dealer bend you over a barrel and show you the 50 states, but they'll keep your car for a week and have some bs excuse why it's not finished. Also, if your dealer doesn't have a body shop, they'll have some kid drive it to a body shop they contract to have it fixed. You want someone driving your Corvette?
It's not difficult...if you don't think you could do it, go to a BODY shop and have them do it...they'll probably charge you $200 or so (my guess).
Lee,
Straight Line doesn't do any body work...I did ask. My local dealer is charging me $150 which I think is fair. I am turning 70 in a couple of weeks and if I were 20 years younger they would have been installed within hours of arrival. I have lost my desire to do things myself any more. So off to some one I know and trust.
If the dealer is only going to charge $150 that's not bad at all, as long as they do a good job.... hope they know their way around the vette...
it's a simple job as long as the guy doing the work cares about what he's doing!
