Default Very weird behavior

I know some of this has been touched on before but my car seems to have some additional issues. This is an intermittent problem. I get in the car and push the starter button and get a loud clicking sound and then the following: no fob detected, service active handling, service antilock brakes, service traction control and then the door won’t open. I tried disconnecting the battery and reconnecting. That solved the problem till I got back in the car a few days later. The battery is only a couple of years old and is kept on a battery tender. My car is an 09 base m6 convertible. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In addition, I have read that there is a steering wheel position sensor connection that could be the culprit. Where exactly is it located and how do you get to it? Oh yeah, the car has 13,000 miles on it.

Thoroughly clean all of the main electrical system connections (battery terminals, battery ground connection at the frame, engine ground, alternator ground, all connections at the starter and fuse box, etc.)

My first thought is failing battery. Does the voltage drop off to nothing when it tries to crank?

That is typical failing battery or bad connections described above behavior.

You should also pull, clean & check the pins on the large blue connecting cables for your BCM located in the passenger floor board. Be sure and pull a cable off of the battery before you do this.

Let us know your results.

Just cleaned the two chassis ground posts under the battery.
I measured 2. 5 Ohms between the battery neg and the Bose amp mounting frame.
After cleaning, I still measured 2.5 ohms resistance. Found the neg battery connector was
the cause. The 11 year old post connector was corroded and rusting.
I put on new connector, replaced the 3.5 y/o battery and now have 0.2 ohm resistance.
Had an issue with my aftermarket stereo system. So far, so good.

Hey folks, thanks for the quick replies. Right now it looks like the battery. The battery is almost 3 years old. Did a voltage check and it was showing 11.7 volts. After charging the car started right up. I’ll check it again tomorrow with a load on it and report back.

It was indeed the battery. Lucky for me I still had 2 months left on the warranty. Never owned a car that exhibited such strange behavior with a a failing battery. Thanks again for the responses.

Yeah, all the electronic gremlins don't do well with no juice. I've seen similar things on other cars. It's almost good news when you get ten error warnings rather than one.

Well, here we go again. I put a new battery in a couple of weeks ago and all was good. Started the car up today and got all of the alerts again. Active handling, traction, antilock brakes, low brake fluid, etc. Everything was back to normal upon restart and several restarts after. Just don’t get it.

Not to add more "sh*t" to your worries, but you could also have battery drain coming from another source. I'd look into it especially if your new battery goes dead or acts quirky in 3 years or less. I would suggest the Optima RedTop battery. Shop around for lowest price...

The last battery lasted about 3 years but was not on a Battery Tender the first year or so. Now if the car is going to sit for more than a few days it’s on the Battery Tender.

If you do get an Optima red top it will either work amazingly well or not at all. I’ve seen many posts warning that Optimas’ are a coin toss, maybe you’ll get a good one maybe you won’t.
I had to return mine a few months after buying it, I got a full refund and bought a AC Delco agm, all good under the hood

What battery and what are the reserve minutes on the battery you have installed? Do not install an AGM battery.

I like the Optima because I had two Delco batteries split open and spew acid onto the engine compartment. I did have one Optima battery fail during the warranty period but no damage to the car.

AGM batteries are more sensitive to being fully drained than other types of batteries so if you don't drive it every day and it sits for more than a few days you should keep the battery on a tender. As per C5 Diag, if your battery was a lead acid battery coming off the assembly line then you should not be using an AGM battery. Hopefully he will chime in.
I have noticed that the Optima AGM battery only has a reserve capacity of 90 minutes and other AGM batteries I have looked at only had 100 reserve minutes. The Everstart Lead Acid Maintenance Free battery at Walmart has a 155 reserve minute rating.and is available in a T5 size.
