Default Differences between CTEK maintainers?

I've been using a CTEK 3100 for several years now and recently purchased a CTEK (40-206) MXS 5.0. I swapped the Callaway to the new CTEK and noticed that even though it was in the green on the 3100, it was only showing 4 out of 8 on the new CTEK. It took about 3 hours before it hit green on the new maintainer.

What could account for the difference between maintainers with one saying fully charged and the other saying basically 1/2 charged? I plan to use the old one on my son's Jeep as it just sits (he's not yet 15 so we don't drive it). But if it's not functioning correctly, I'll buy another new one. Thoughts?

I use a 40-206 on my Grand Sport because it has an AGM setting for my AGM battery. I'm not familiar with the 3100.

If it's sitting on 3 or 4 for an extended period of time, it might be that the battery is having a difficult time getting to full charge. I've found in my experience that the battery won't last much longer when it starts doing that.

The 3100 is older and was a step above the oem optional charger. My battery is pretty new (less than a year) and is kept on the tender. It just seems odd to me it was showing fully charged on the old unit but not on the new one.

I'd first measure the voltage on the jeep battery, preferably with the battery disconnected, just for a baseline. Hook up the 3100 to the disconnected battery, and let the 3100 finish doing whatever it's going to do. Then disconnect the 3100 and wait maybe 1/2 an hour. Then measure the battery voltage again. The voltage should be a good indicator of the % charge on the battery. There are a few tables around that relate voltage to % charge which I'm sure you'll be able to find. One number that sticks in my mind is that 12.6 volts for a flooded cell battery indicates 100 % charge. That might give you an idea if the 3100 is working correctly.
