Agree...I change all the fluids in all my vehicles. Purchase Mobil 1 at Costco, get some quality filters to on hand. Seems like I'm always changing oil (have 3 kids, 6 cars); taught the kids how to do it as well. Add in brake work along with the fluid changes, I've already gotten my return on investment for the 4 post lift (which makes it enjoyable actually).

That's mainly why that I stay out of dealerships. The instant oil change place less than a mile from my house charges $110.00 using Mobil One.

12 qt box of Mobil 1 5W-30 at Walmart - $59
ACDelco UPF48R filter - maybe $10

Both drain plugs and oil lines removed = 11.75 qts to replace. I use almost the entire box.

Do it yourself if you can get under the car safely. Most dealers cannot fill the dry sump correctly. The one time my dealer did it, it was about 3/4 qt overfilled, no harm no foul though.

Just ordered another Jack and pair of Jack stands.
I haven’t changed my own oil since 1990.
However, just got an estimate of $700 to change my M7 and differential fluids.
Coupled with my last oil change for $165, no longer feel the service is worth it.
I drive my 1less than 100 miles a month. Hope to save a couple bucks and learn more
about my car.

I'm a huge fan of the Daytona low profile long reach back from harbor freight. It's a fantastic jack at an affordable price.

If you say that your teen / pre-teen kids love having pictures of them taken so you can post them on a sports car forum where a bunch of adult dudes are going to look at them then either you or your kids are lying.

Right. Because cameras are a recent invention and haven't existed for over 100 years.

My kids are young, but my point is just that you chose to see something in a negative light for no reason. Instead of seeing "wow, kids learning to do things and bonding with their dad, how nice" you chose to be a negative dork about it.

It's like you didn't even read what I wrote.

Not at all how I meant it and that's on you for taking it that way and deciding to criticize me and call me names right off the cuff instead of using your brain to think about where I would be coming from. It's not weird at all and actually very common for kids not to want their picture taken and shared on the internet for a bunch of random guys to look at.
If you want to look at other peoples kids on a sports car forum (which is super weird and creepy), take things WAY out of context and call people names on the internet, go for it. You do you.
Someone can easily say that they have their kids help work on their cars without posting pic's for a bunch of old dudes to gawk at.

Well it seems the issue is with the old dudes gawking at the kids. And, because you're so concerned, my kids do not mind that pictures of them are posted. I'll be sure to pass along your concern for their wellbeing

Here's my perspective. Worry about your own life, not other people's. What members of their family other people choose.to post pictures of doesn't concern me. That's their choice and not my damn problem.

That's exactly what happened years ago to my new 94 Vette at West Chevrolet in Maryville Tn.!

Guess who has never sold me a new car since!

Shucks, I'm 75 and can still do an oil change! Like the song says, "Don't let the old man in".

No way they charged you 250 for just an oil change. They must have done other stuff. I try and do all of my own maintenance stuff if possible as I don't trust the techs at the dealers. If I'm doing the work, I know it's the way I want things done.

The bigger irony is that the closer you are to the oil, the more it costs.

I do my own maintenance as well. I believe that if I mess it up I know it will be made right. Teaching my grand kids how to maintenance their cars. My grandson doing a complete brake job on his Sonoma and my granddaughter learning to change her oil

Breaks are what really gets me, replacing disk breaks is so easy, yet I see places that charge $800.

Why are you paying someone else $800 to break your car? Now $800 to replace brakes, pretty common.
