Hi, First time to the Forum except when I bought my C6 a couple of years ago. Hope someone can help. I am having top lowering and raising problems. I can overcome it but I am waiting for the time I can't. This is what is happening; When I lower the top everything works fine except the tonneau does not latch. Even when the button is released you can hear the latch buzzing as it is not latching. If I press down on it with my right elbow it clicks in and all is well. Similarly, when closing it everything works properly but the tonneau does not latch again and the buzzing continues and everything stops. Again, if I press my elbow down on the tonneau it latches and the convertible moves correctly and all is well. This has just started. Is there some maintenance or lubrication needed somewhere? Thanks and look forward to hearing a solution from someone.
Sounds like you need a new pull down latching mechanism. I had to replace one. They’re plastic and the gears strip easy. The housing is also plastic and is prone to cracking like mine did. Mine made the same grinding noise that yours is.
It took about 30 minutes. They’re kind of pricey, so you might want to shop around to find the best deal. And see if you can find one that isn’t made with the crappy plastic like the stock piece unless you have to.
Pull the waterfall and inspect that inner piece. Pretty sure it’s cracked and/or stripped.
No new fully functional pulldown motor units are available. Do an interweb search and you will find refurbished units and others (like the Dorman) that only includes the motor and plastic housing and gear. You would need to move your existing pulldown loop and electrical connector over to the motor/housing unit to make a complete assembly. The vendors that provide refurbs will want your old unit in exchange so they can transfer the parts to make new refurb units.
