I’m looking to upgrade the factory radio in my 07 Z06. Is it possible to add the left side phone controls and have them work with an aftermarket head unit?
Crutchfield has the module you need. I used it on a previous GS I upgraded to a Kenwood radio. They can supply a package that has everything you need to upgrade your head unit. Great customer service too.
You would need to have the correct clock spring for the radio controls. If you have the right buttons though, yes having the harness to enable your controls as a whole will give you the option to use your controls with an aftermarket radio.
If you have the right controls, the left will most likely work as well if it were an 08+. Not sure on an 07 though since that was pre-bluetooth

That’s more specifically what I was wondering, if the pre-Bluetooth clock spring would work with the later Bluetooth controls. I would think the same, that if so, they should work with the new head unit without issue. Just curious if anyone has successfully done it.
If you have the controls on the right side of the wheel, adding the controls on the left side should function just fine as you already have the correct clock spring and wiring needed for them to work, assuming you have a head unit capable of these added functions. I added steering wheel controls to my 05 which wasn’t an option in 05 using a 09 steering wheel and a 07+ clock spring and of course I had to get the newer air bag to match the newer steering wheel, then I had to run three new wires (1 illumination wire, and 2 wires for the actual controls) I’ve attached the instructions on how I did this if you’re interested in reading them.

I believe there’s a wire from the left side controls that connects in there somewhere to the other controls, exactly how and where I don’t recall, when I did mine, I bought the wheel with all the controls already on it, to see how they all hook up in the wheel, I’d have too pull mine apart to see it, or you could just find a wheel that has all the controls on it already.
my car is a 2011, When I changed my wheel to the aftermarket Revesol one Instead of swapping the parts from my wheel I bought a complete steering wheel from ebay and used those parts for the swap. My OEM wheel had the right side controls on the wheel but not the left side (the new wheel had the Bluetooth controls) After my install was done now the left side when I hit the answer button (top button) it activates Siri on my aftermarket radio but the end call button doesn't do anything

Mine originally defaulted to OnStar, and no matter how I tried to program them they always went to OnStar, to address this I pulled the OnStar fuse in the floor board fuse box (which isn’t supported by GM anymore anyway, so no loss there). After doing so I could program them to operate like I wanted them to. If I get a chance in the next few days, I’ll try to pull my airbag, ant take a look at the wiring for the controls behind it.
