Default Shift linkage bar replacement instructions

I just ordered a C6 Billet Shift Bar Rebuild Kit, and I’m wondering if anyone has instructions on how to install/replace?

Installing the new parts in the shift linkage is straightforward. The hard part is getting the linkage out of the car. Is your drivetrain still assembled? The linkage attaches to the transmission with a roll pin inside the torque tube rear housing. The only way to access it is to separate the transmission from the torque tube by at least 4 inches or so.

ugh. That’s what I suspected. No everything is together. I was hoping not to have to split the torque tube.

You understand that the rear rod coupling you are changing out, is on the front side of trans itself, and in the back end of the torque tube cover void as well.

So front coupling at back of shifter has to have it bolt removed so front of shift rod can be split there when you pull the trans, then drive line from trans back has to be remove from car so you can get to the cross pin on the old coupling to remove it from the trans shifter shaft stub, install the new unit, then put everything all back together from back of torque tube rear.

Hence to change the rear coupling on the rod, you have to remove the drive line from the back of torque tube back, since not enough room to replace with trans still in place, much less less get to it, since port window through bell housing will be on top.

I know this is an old post, but hoping this will make a helpful reference for anyone else. There's a video on the website listing that shows exactly how it's done. It's really quite simple C5 C6 Billet Shift Linkage Bar Rebuild Kit 97-13 Corvette
