I had not heard that. Back in the day, they had a rep for not paying off loans, poor title work, etc. so I've always avoided them even when their quote was higher.

It has always been difficult selling a used car, and it's only gotten worse over the past few years. My last Corvette (C7) that I sold went to a local dealer. I used the "get an offer" from kbb (I think) and they were the highest. I went to my friendly Porsche dealer (in person) and got a quote, and told him of the quote from the Chevy dealer for IIRC $1000 more. He said "go for it". Which I did. It was pretty painless.

I've also sold a couple of Mustangs GTs in the past decade, and with that car, the best price I got was from Carvana. The first one was easy-peasy, they came and picked it up, no inspection, the guy couldn't drive a stick, gave me a check and the truck got it later. The second one I took to the Carvana store because they now charge $75 to pick it up, and even with an appointment I waited for over an hour to get the deal done and they never called an Uber for me (I ended up doing it myself, so I didn't get reimbursed) and they really pissed me off with the whole thing. They gave me about $2k more than the Ford dealer because Carvana doesn't seem to care or factor in things like color, manual transmission, etc. like the dealers do. Sometimes a manual can work against you (it was a convertible).

And I've sold a few cars to Carmax in the past too, they are slow and they tend to pay less than if you market it well unless it's something that they can flip quickly and easily, like a Camry (I guess, I would never own one).

Best of luck.

FYI, my local Carmax in Ontario CA had a salesperson killed while riding in a C6 on a test drive with a customer a few years ago. It can happen.
This is one of the reasons I dread selling my Vette or any other "hot" car - The Great American Idiot is attracted to fast cars the way flies are attracted to fresh dog turds.

NO, I won't take trades.
NO, I won't take payments.
NO, I won't hold it for you while you figure it out with your bank/wife/boss/dog/whatever.
NO, I won't let you borrow it for the weekend to see if you like it.
NO, I won't let you do a burnout or "take it up to 140" to see if it will in fact do that.
NO, I won't take your check.
NO, I won't hold your check until your paycheck clears, either.
NO, I won't tach you how to drive stick.
NO, I won't take a dog/gun/meth in partial payment. YES, I'm sure it is an awesome dog/gun/bag of meth, but NO, I don't want any of them.
