My new-to-me Z06 came with the under hood light, and it was upgraded at some point to LED. I was having some starting issues, had the battery tested which showed it needed a charge, and threw it on the Battery Tender. I have the hood up and the BT connected to the terminals (+ fuse box and - block). With the hood up, the light is supposed to stay lit for 10 minutes of no activity and then turn off, according to the owner's manual.
It does not turn off completely. It definitely gets a lot dimmer, but it is still lit hours after opening the hood. Odd behavior? Normal with LED? Enquiring minds want to know!
Normal for the LED to stay dim after it times out.A very small voltage is enough to keep it illuminated. Will take some time but it will eventually drain down the battery.
It's the LED's the same thing happens with the lights in the rear view mirror and they both will slowly drain the battery. You can add load resistors into the circuit to increase the load and fully toggle the circuit to off or just put an incandescent bulb back in and problem is solved. Also the under hood light was dropped from the factory as it would not always turn off with the hood closed and new cars were showing up at the dealerships with dead battery's straight off the transport trucks.
It could simply be the bulb. I have the underhood light and switched it to led. I used a brand called Auxito and have no issues. I have also replaced every bulb in my car with leds and no issues. If you change that underhood light I would pull the courtesy fuse. I blew it roght out of the gate changing that one.

Thanks, I'll look into that brand.
Which bulb did you use for the hood light?

Happens the underhood light on mine is burnt out. On the 86 I sold I had bought a wiring harness addon to it that connected between the car and lights with a push-button switch that you could turn the lights off with a simple push of a button. Used water insulated connectors and had it on for 10 years without an issue. I plan to check this one out to see if it will work and if I want to use it.
Just FYI.
If it were me I'd take the bulb out and keep it handy like in the center console if you need it. Not worth having it constantly draining your battery. I don't remember the last time I had to lift my hood when it was dark.

I pulled it for now, but I do like my stuff to work lol! I'll probably just go back to regular incandescent.
