help with underside of car? engine mount nuts missing?
Hi guys. Hoping for some help. A while back I had my power steering rack replaced by a shop. After a couple days I called to see if my car was ready, they said it would be shortly. When driving it home, the brake pedal would slowly fall to the floor at a stop light. Turns out they forgot to re-tighten the nuts that secure the brake lines into the ABS module. Point is, obviously there was a miscommunication between the mechanic and manager; car was NOT ready. Drove back there. They tightened them.
I don't remember when, but at some point I started to notice a clunking/clicking sound on some turns but it's easy to reproduce by moderate to quick acceleration (not when accelerating slowly). I finally get under the car many months later and saw what appeared to be missing nuts the possibly secure the engine mounts to the crossmember? I figured the shop would likely not have these around anymore so just drove to my local Chevy parts department. After MUCH effort, the parts tech simply could NOT find any nuts that go here. But looking at these pics, that just doesn't seem right. These are from my car, just a few days ago. Not only are there threads, but you can see what appears to be different level of oxidation where the nut flanges would have been. Can anyone confirm if there should be nuts here? It seems so obvious from the pictures but if the parts department can't find them there's not much I can do. The 3rd pic is not from my car. Sure looks like nuts on there to me.
I replaced my HB earlier this year and confirm 100% absolutely there are nuts on those motor mount bolts. Online research indicates those notes are M12x1.75, 14mm tall flange nuts. The GM part number is 11516078
And don't forget your torque wrench!!! Harbor Freight has inexpensive ones, that there are MANY comparison test done against SNAP-ON,Mac,etc. They ALWAYS come out on top of the list, NOT because they are better, but because they are AS GOOD, just a lot less $$.
