P0442 Code
I only drive it about 1K a year, so wasn't really an issue , but am selling it so wanted it off.
Will find out if it stays off, but I recall filing it up while it was running a while ago...
Must have been that hopefully, Have a 2 hour drive to my other house where I'm selling it, well see...
Funny the AutoZone guy told me what the code was and but had a smile when he told me so knew it was something stupid...
He said he wasn't allowed to clear it so Amazon shopping I went. Took longer to hook it up and RTFM than to clear them .
Some possible causes of a P0442 code include:
- A faulty leak detection pump
- A loose or improperly installed gas cap
- A gas cap that doesn't meet the vehicle manufacturer's standards
- A crack or hole in a fuel vapor hose or tube
- A faulty vent or purge valve
- A bad vent seal
Some common symptoms of a P0442 code include:
- A noticeable gasoline smell coming from the car
- The check engine light appearing on the dashboard
- A noticeable drop in the car's fuel efficiency
The easiest potential fix for a P0442 code is to tighten or change the fuel cap. If that doesn't work, you can use an OBD-II code scanner to identify the problem and try to solve it yourself. If that doesn't work, you can contact a professional mechanic for a diagnosis and repair.
