Default First vette... needs tires

Just picked up a 05 base. Previous owner put new tires on it to pass safety. Problem 1 they are cheap off brand tires, problem 2 is the rear he put 275/40/19s.

Tires don't hook well at all so need to get new tires.

Looking at the Nitto NT555 G2s

I've looked at the forum and searched sizes but damn that gets confusing! I know I'd like wider tires all around! Is there a definite answer to what fits?m

Whats better rearm 305/30/19 or 305/35/19??
fronts? 265/35/18? 245/40/18?
i read something about trying to stay within a certain height difference F/R to avoid stability control issues?

Lots to learn on these cars, Im use to slow and way overbuilt Jeeps!

I'm a big fan of Continental tires. I have them on both my Vettes and my Lincoln. They have a nice ride, are quiet and my cars handle amazing.

I'd stay with stock size tires. What do you expect to gain for going a little bigger?
As far as brand, any higher end model of a name brand will work for street driving. Check out tire rack for comparison info.
I've had Michelins, BFG's, Nitto's, Falken's, and Goodyear's in the past.

I personally wouldn't go over 1 size wider on stock wheels.295/35 rear and 255/40 front would be a good fit.As far as Nittos,I put a set on my C6 last year and liked them so much that I just put a set on my C7.I will probably put them on my C5 next spring.

Ditto on Conti’s
They make a great tire for the price and you can always find deals on them. I’d say if you had a wide body, your options would be more limited, but for a base, you have lots more options

Another vote for the Conti Extreme Contact.
Less road noise, good all weather performance.
Stay with stock sizes and find a shop that knows how to align, will be like a new car.

My 05 had BFG G-Force put on the back prior to my buying it and I have no problem with them as I had them on my last Vette. Found the front tires were 11 years old so I changed them. I ended up with Continentals. I can't say anything bad about either set of tires.

Continental puts tires on some impressive sports cars, never heard anything bad about them. Probably get better life out of them also. Keep the size close to stock, you don't want fitment issues.

Just did PS4's in stock sizes on the same gumby wheels, no need to "stretch" the tire beyond recommended specs. Non stock tire sizes can also cause the traction control to put you in limp mode when you lease expect it if you're not careful since the front and rear wheels arn't spinning at the RPM's the the computer is looking for. I can't believe the improvement in ride quality, tire noise and traction with these Michelins. They hold 1st on a stock car no problem. You can't go wrong.

Michelin & Continental are probably the most preferred brands on the forum.

I have Michelin Pilot SS on my stock wheels and Goodyears on my black set. I'd say I like the Michelins better. Same wear on both sets but the Michelins grab a little better

Open the driver door and look at the tire information sticker in the door jamb. The correct tire sizes are listed there.

Using the original recommended tire size will get you the most options and best pricing.
