Hi there,
I have a 2010 GS A6. The windshield has little pits or marks that only show up when the sun hits it a certain way. I have used 3M glass polish with an orbital buffer. Still have lots of marks. Does anyone have a solution other than replacing the glass.

Those pits/marks are rock chips. Short of replacing the windshield, you're not going to get rid of them.
Any decent insurance policy offers zero deductible glass replacement...Never going to polish out pits imo...In SC is one per year....
Check your comprehensive policy
You can't file a claim and expect reimbursement just because the glass is old. You need to have an actual accident or a crack large enough that it can't be repaired.
Just bite the bullet and buy a new windshield. Don't use a chain like Safelite, find a local shop that will be willing to do it for you, for cash, for less than what they charge the insurance companies.

Pitted is not old...yes you can if it hinders your view...
I think you are right. In this day and age of insurance companies cancelling policies for almost any reason, I don't want to give them one. Anyone have an idea how much this will cost? I do have the HUD and I think that takes a different windshield. Thanks for the reply!

Your handle is ironic...... again check your coverage... and even if you do have head up...the standard glass has worked perfect for a lot of people here...so search that too...or just fork 1200 or more out of your own pocket...why even have insurance if you don't use it...... Also in SC its law they provide one per year free if its needed...now sure about our home state of NC...
Yes, comprehensive car insurance can usually cover the cost to repair or replace a pitted windshield:
Comprehensive coverage
This optional insurance coverage pays for damage to your car that's not related to a collision, such as damage from falling objects, vandalism, theft, or natural disasters.
I'll add to this, if I may, that you should never give or take advice about insurance from unknown people on the Internet (yes, that includes me). State laws vary, and what may be true or "understood" in one state may not be applicable in another state.
The only way to truly know what is covered is to look at your policy. If it's not there, you're not covered.
As for the avoiding Safelite....don't be so sure their price off insurance isn't competitive with anyone else you can find. And besides, they install windshields all day long every day of the week, whereas Ken's body shop may do it once a month.
