Can't tell you how many time I've run up against the rev limiter in lower gears. Eyes on the road and the car never stops pulling and gets there quick. Shift lights are helpful.
I use the shift light on my HUD. It takes a little practice for the first couple of gears to keep from hitting the rev limiter, but other than that it works great.
So no constructive answers. haha. I have a raptor shift light I've been meaning to install for about a decade. WHEN I GET AROUND TO IT, it will be installed in the A/C vent. That way I can close it if too bright at night and doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.
You might want to re-read the thread. There are several that answer the OP's question; just not in the way expected, mine included. The original question was "What are you guys running for shift lights and where/how are you mounting them?" Indicating that the OEM shift light is used, and where it's located is a valid answer to that question.
Just keep in mind that your still going to get the dash light, but will not lock you out of the next gear.
If you want to do away with the dash light coming on as well, then can be resolve in an after market tune, and will not need to use the resistor fuse.
Some of these comments crack me up. I have a built motor and want to shift at a lower rpm then the stock setting. The Hud is worthless in bright light and I don't want to be looking at my hud for safety purposes.

Oh geeze, this guy again. If you don't have anything constructive to add, just pipe down. I'm sure he's aware of the HUD. At least two people already mentioned it. Maybe you should re-read the OP. Reading is fundamental. If we have questions about duck tape stripes, you'll be the first one we ask. XD
I have an old Harlan shift light that I've had forever. I forget how many cars it's been in.
I mounted it in the vent in my JSB car.
Been meaning to install it in the recent car I got.
