I know this is a “dumb” question but i’ve heard this can cause electrical issues… I replaced my stock plug wires with the red ac delco wires and kept the metal insulators. Usually plug wires click into the plug but I can’t get any of these to click in place. Car has been like this for a year now and I’m just wondering if they are supposed to click in place. These boots have a 90 degree angle on them where the wire comes out and I’m thinking maybe the stock heat shield is preventing them from clicking in place? I’m out here now messing with them, I feel stupid even asking this being somewhat mechanically inclined. No misfires, car still runs good…

Take one of the metal shields off and see if they will click without it.
Will do as soon as I get a chance, after messing with the wires last night trying to click on seems like the “service vehicle soon” light is coming on immediately now but the car still runs great. Maybe coincidence?
Factory wires do not click into place. They just slide in. Really cheap connectors. And once you install them they go out of shape, that is why it is usual for them to fall of the coils. I have changed to MSD wires, they laudably click into place and installation manual specifically says to make sure they click into place and you hear the click on both coils and plugs. Those are there forever, never coming off.

Ah gotcha, i got two clicks on all the coils but none on the plugs. It almost feels like i can wiggle the connector around on top of the plug like its not even making a good connection. Surprisingly the car runs great, not sure if this could even trip the “service vehicle soon” message.
They are the same ones that were on the car before and they had the heat shields.
I have these same wires. I just took them off to place heat shield protector sleeves on the plug boots because one was touching the header. When I re-installed them they all clicked in place.

I wonder why I can’t get mine to click on? I’ve done plenty of plugs and wires but can’t get a single one of these to click on the plug. Maybe I’ll try to pop them off and put more dielectric grease inside and see how they look. Just worried I’m going to break them pulling off, the boot is on real tight.

I think you will be fine. When mine clicked it was a very low key click. Not as noticeable as the click from the other end that goes on the coil. Just put them on and take it for a drive. You will know right away if something is not connected right.
I replaced the plug wires with the AC Delco wires, and could not "hear " and audible "click" however, I could feel them engage (if you will). My car is S/C'd and no issues what-so-ever.....
