I can’t see how to install them
becuase they come uncompressed and I can’t compress them to get them on the convertible top opening
Are you referring to the trunk lid struts, or the rear shocks ? Like others have mentioned a picture of what you’re talking about, and a description of your car (year etc.) would help a lot.
I'm taking a swag here that it's the struts on either the hood or trunk lid. I replaced the ones on the hood, after breaking the ends on one of the first set I bought. What someone here helped me with was the method. There's a clip on each end that needs to be 'released' to get it off and onto the stud. How you do that is with a small screwdriver. You come in from the back side under the strut, lifting the clip a little, then the strut end will fit over the stud, then just pull the screwdriver out. It won't fit over the stud without doing that, even trying to use a channel lock plier to try and snap it on will only break the end off (DAMHIK). Once you figure out the screwdriver trick, they just snap on in moments.
Hope that's what you need and it helps.

If it's the tonneau cover and you have a manual top here's where you need to start.
1. Unlatch the top and lift the rear section up and prop it with something.
2. Open the tonneau cover and prop it open. The top parts of the strut are not too bad to reach. The bottom is more difficult and harder to see and reach. Unfortunately you can't have the tonneau and the trunk open at the same time.
3. Use a small flat blade screwdriver to release the clips and try not to pop them all the way off.
4. Remove and install the struts one at a time so you reference how they go back in.
5. Install the new ones by snapping them in place in the same orientation the old ones came out.
6. Ops check and make sure you're happy with your work.
If you have a power top, I do not know how you can freeze the top and tonneau where you need it. My 2006 has a manual top. Good luck.
