I apologize if this was asked and answered before, but didn't find any answer to it. I know certain things typically happen to particular engine models but what about the bad balancer issue? Does it happen across the board to the various LS engine types used in the C6? Does it typically happen to only certain year of engines?
I have a 05 LS2 and far as I can tell I don't have an issue at this time. Just want to know if this something I need to stay vigilant to in the future or if it's typically a non-issue with the LS2 engine.
Thanks much for any info.

Something that can affect pretty much all LS motors, Vigilance is probably the right word. Don't stress about it, take a look at it every so often, if it happens fix it. Its not as bad of a job as people make it out to be.
Its not a balancer, since the engine is internal balanced.
Its a harmonic dampener, and the only thing you have to worry about mostly, is the center rubber dampening part, coming unglued from the inner steel and outer steel pulley hubs that is was bonded to,
Or worst yet, it has been change, but someone did not install the new one correctly, the bolt comes loose, and the whole unit walks off the crank snout to eat either the power steering cooler, or steering rack instead. .
For what it's worth I changed out my stock dampener when I installed my A&A kit. The stock dampener had 81k on it and no signs of failure. It's not an inevitable with any C6, but it could happen to any C6. So just watch for the warning signs (chirping, wobbling) and be prepared to change it if you see any major issues.
A dear friend of mine just bought a 2000 coupe with LS1 engine, Nassau Blue with tan, automatic and 42,000 miles. When idling the engine for me, it has a smell that resembles a burning sepentine belt. I looked to see that the harmonic balancer wobbles. I wonder if it is has also walked off center to cause that smell. CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE VIDEO.

Auto enthusiast forums can make you think that a particular problem is more prevalent than it it really is as there are not as many posts about how beautiful the harmonic damper looks in their vette. So probably not as common as you think.
Being that.... my LS2 damper failed at 10 years, 77k miles. I can turn wrenches so I replaced it myself in a weekend for 150 bucks....including couple of tools needed to make it easier.
Don't fret....and don't check it constantly. The whip-poor-will sound coming from under your hood will be a clue.
