Hello everyone. Fist time poster here. I recently bought a 2006 convertible. Has 60000 miles. Just started leaking oil for the balancer area and has a slight wobble. I don't mind replacing it with aftermarket, just want it to be better than OEM. Any suggestions.?
Welcome, and nice ride, good luck I have 05 with 90,000 miles and I have little wobble that tech no concern yet, and showed me when it get worse come back!
I replaced the one on my 06 convertible and used the Powerbond/Daco PB1117N. Search here and read all about numerous options. While you are at it replace the front main seal GM-296-02. I elected to replace the belts as well as the AC belt tensioner and the drive belt tensioner.
My harmonic balancer was replaced by a local auto repair shop last year. The shop was unable to obtain the OEM unit, so they installed one from Summit Racing instead. I actually prefer this performance unit over the OEM; it is rock solid.
I've decided to replace the harmonic damper with the ATI917245 accompanied with an ARP crank bolt. Going in next Sunday. I'll give an update. Thanks to all.
The Powerbond is just fine for less $$ than ATI but either is fine. Do NOT use a factory replacement!! Lots of good info here on how it's done. Sizable project but certainly doable for a handy DIY'er. Be sure to get a Chrysler style puller for the old HB removal and an installation tool for the new one. Don't use the old bolt as an installation tool!! Both tools should be available for "rent" at any parts store. I wouldn't bother pinning it unless you plan on adding a super charger. Not necessary for everyday street use.
