Default Seat dye?

Hey everyone, the driver's seat bolster on my 07 has lost some color due to the seatbelt rubbing.

Anyone have success with either re-dyeing small areas like that or touching up with something else?

Thanks!

Not dye, paint. You just need the right color vinyl paint to fix it.

Agree. That bolster is most likely vinyl and not leather which is usually in the seating area only. The leather has a coating on it so is not very receptive to dyes. Not sure about coatings on the vinyl non-seating areas.

Corvette seat skins have a plastic coating on the vinyl areas too.

Vinyl either has the color molded in or is painted.

Also the "leather" that GM.uses is bonded leather .. which is to leather what MDF is to wood. It's scraps and leather dust glued together to be called leather again. It's also painted.

I took my car to a local upholstery shop. The worn spot on the side bolster wasn't caused by the seatbelt; it was caused by my fat butt scraping against it. The guy at the upholstery shop used paint and did an excellent job.

Go to leatherworldtech.com out of Virginia. I got dye from them like 10 years ago for the red in my 2008....had a slight color loss/rub on the driver's bolster where you rub getting in. Got their kit with an exact color match using the manufacturer's code on their site. I have since used it two or three more times....still works perfectly and matches great. Their product is in a bottle and you dab it on with a foam applicator they supply.....after a really good cleaning of the material to ensure all your body oil and protective treatments are removed. Easy to do and it comes out great....black should be a breeze.

Try "Doc Bailey's Leather Black". I've used it on several black leather car seats and steering wheels and it always covered the blemish and blended in well. It was originally recommended to me over 2 decades ago by a furniture restorer who also did auto upholstery repairs.

I redyed my daughters tan leather seats. I used Seat Doctor and it was an exact match. I only did the bolster.
