Lifter failure
At 183,000 mi my 13 GS Vert has had its second major repair. The first was the torque tube couplers, but I replaced the whole torque tube. Then after a spirited drive I had a miss at idle. The miss went away at about 1500 rpm and would return at idle. I can no longer do major repairs so I took it to a local shop Who was initially confused because although the compression was slightly down on number 6 were the miss was it was still a 140 . He remembered an old school trick of taking the preload off the lifter to see if the lifter was collapsing. As he took the preload off the number 6 intake at idle , the miss went away. So both heads came off for new trays and lifters and it is back to running strong. This happened 3 days before I planned to leave on Power Tour so I was sad to miss the Tour I am glad it happened near home and not hundreds of miles away.
