stiff steering

Default stiff steering
recent stiffness in steering of 2006 with 25000 miles
have been told it is a steering solenoid malfunction--apparently part to fix very difficult to locate
has anyone experienced a similar issue?
would appreciate any similar problems/resolution/suggestions

reliable mechanic tells me I need EBCM assembly.
having great difficulty obtaining this part.
I am looking for suggestions for parts' sources new/used/salvage
