Thought I might give more southern climes a chance and I'm still here 42 years later. I like having 4 seasons, get a little snow most winters but still get the Vette and motorcycle up into the Blue Ridge during warm spells. When it gets too GD hot in July and August I go to Canada.
I'm planning on retiring in a few years and was looking at Aiken, SC. How is Greenville for retirees ?

I love this area. I like being in the foothills, easy access to the mountains and the best lakes. It is the fastest growing area outside of Texas. I'm sure Aiken is less expensive but warmer and more tornado prone. Before Helene I said we never got hurricanes either. Now that I'm retired I would rather be just a little farther north for recreation but I do like being just a few miles out of town. Greenville has great restaurants and entertainment at the Peace Center. I've got tickets to Larkin Poe, Graham Nash, Cowboy Junkies coming up. $5 event parking at all the downtown garages. SC income taxes aren't zero but they really go down after 65 as do property taxes.

I live on Long Island and the past two years I’ve taken it out of the storage unit at least monthly in the winter season. A warm jacket, heat on max and the heated seats make for a refreshing ride with the top down 👍

I too am on the island and had mine out the past two years all winter. Definitely not this year ☹️. At the rate we are going it may be April or May before we can 🤪

Lost my power Monday about 7am, came back on last night at 11:15. Out again this am @ 7:30, still off now. I have a Generac automatic generator, but of course it decided to start acting up, voltage was ramping up and down 30 volts to 120. I shut it down and let it sit for several hours and powered it back up, worked properly for about 8 hours and started with the up and down voltage. Let it rest for a bit and it worked properly again. Not sure what is going on with it, any "generator geeks" here?

Just a guess, check that all the vents are clear, could be heat related if the regulator for the voltage is overheating.

I do not think it is heat related as a good foot plus around the unit was fully clear of snow with no obstructions to limit cooling or air intake of the unit. Additionally the engine of the generator was running perfectly at RPM. The issue was ramping up and down of voltage. I would suspect a heat issue but the problem occurs many hours in, 10-20 hours, so that would tell me it is not heat related. I also would suspect the voltage regulator, but if that was the problem how could it drop voltage down to 30 volts, my thought is the voltage regulators job it to limit the amount of voltage the generator can put put out.
