Default C6 ls3 lifter issue

Hey everyone , got a c6 ls3 randomly got a loud upper valve train tick/tap noise out of no where . I think it’s a stuck or collapsed lifter there is up and down lash in one rocker arm . No bent pushrods or broken valve springs. Car is cammed with dual valve springs etc . there is no cel or any misfire codes. Question is trying marvel mystery oil worth a shot to see if it will quite the sound down or unstick the lifter if it is stuck ? I am aware that heads have to come off to replace lifters . But really looking into trying marvel mystery oil before pulling heads. Is it really worth a shot ? Anyone have tried marvel mystery oil? I will attach video of what the sound is

Best guess, when cam was replaced, lifter trays where not replace, allowed the old lifters to rotate off axis so its roller was not indexing straight with the lob of the cam surface, and now you have a flat spot on both the lifter roller and cam surface.

Hence see is too many times, where someone will add a higher lift cam without pulling the heads to replace the lifter trays, old lifter tray is about worn out, and they do not keep the lifter from rotating off axis.

And to add, the stock lifter trays work fine with standard lift cams, but when you taking more lift that will wear them out quicker, want to go with linked lifters, to keep them from rotating off axis that way instead.

Of leave the standard amount of lift in the cam against the lifter trays, and change out the rocker arms to higher ratio, to gain more vavle lift that way instead.

Always try the easy solution first. Marvel oil or sea foam is cheap. If it does not solve the problem you can move on. Years ago I had a lifter tick, it was still under warranty, dealer wanted to take it all apart, I decided to try an engine cleaner first, it is no longer made, drove 100 miles changed the oil, the noise was gone. Obviously some dirt in the lifter collapsing it.

Could be debris between the ID of the vavle to OD of the piston that is making it stick down in the body, or could be debris between the end of piston to check vavle plate

that is not allowing the lifter to oil pump up.

But normally, if that is the problem with crap in the lifters, then you will have bigger problems with derbies going through the engine in the first place.

Yes exactly. And engine cleaner will also hopefully dissolve and flush the rest of the gunk Dano is talking about, if that is the case.

Another possibility is that you get enough junk floating around the engine that you take out the bottom end, too.
