Hi, my 2009 base model has developed a practice of not being able to come out of park. So far it has released eventually, but i need to have a reliable shifte. Any thoughts or knowledge on how to fix this. It seems the new units are not available.
Basically, brake pedal press activates a micro switch and solenoid that moves a shift lock pawl, allowing the shifter to move. This switch or solenoid fails. See posts on replacing just the switch. Or can tie back or cut off the pawl, permitting the shifter to move without requiring a brake pedal press.
See my link above. I find seaching via Goolge yields better results than from within the forum. To limit to CF, include "Site:corvetteforum.com" in your search.
I had the same issue that started over a year ago with my 2008 with 38,000 miles. It would not occasionally shift out of park until I turned the vehicle off and started it again. Then it started getting worse. After I researched this on the Corvette Forum I went to my local Chevrolet dealer and told them what was going on. The Service Writer said this has become more and more of an issue with the auto tranny C6. He told me it will eventually get worse and you will not be able to shift out of park.
Luckily, they have a Corvette mechanic on staff, and they have repaired a number of these using the harness made by C&S Corvettes.
The dealer ordered the harness and installed it, and I haven't had any issues since. The Service Writer told me he doesn't understand why GM hasn't issued a TSB or recall based on the number repairs they have been doing on the C6.
You should get this fixed, otherwise you could get stranded and require a tow. Hope this gets worked out for you!
